Lt dR Friedrich Craß - I am a bit reluctant to "believe" it.

From the files in Doorn about awards of the HOH after 1918 there was only ONE heavly disucced case of a late award of a HOH3X for WW1. That was Hugo Rudel in 1927.

Frhr. von Schade - my mistake! I did mix up 2 of that guys.

Haase - hmpf... I have Haase as Lt and KompFhr, first name Walther.

Haase, the flyer - no HOH3X in Dez.17 to him, no princely HEK as well....

H.-H. von der Osten got a Ernestinian knights cross with swords, no HOH or HEK acc. my data.

Briese, Carl - acc. my data plm, RAO2EX, KO2aX, but no HOH. As he was already a GenMaj in Aug 14, he was way too senior for a HOH3X. Next step would be the HOH2X but no proof of that.

Beaulieu - no, I do not think so. There were some cases, even late in the war, that the plm was awarded without a previous HOH3X. I had him quite long on my "suspects-list".

Most likely that bar belonged to 

Gustav Seelmann-Eggebert, 1868-1949

In 1914 he was a Major in Telegraphen-Bataillon No. 3, later Armee-Nachrichten-Kommandeur 5, latest rank LtCol.

uo to 1914 all his awards are present at the bar:

Red Eagle 4 with X, Crown Order 4, Long Service Cross, SWA, China, Hess. Philipp knight 2nd class.
In WW1 he could add

the "usual Iron Crosses", Bavarian Military merit Order 4th class with crown and swords and Wuertt. Order of the Crown knight with swords

For me it looks nice and legit.

1st place ist most likely a RedEagle Order 4th class with swords.

Last ribbon could be a hessian Philipp-Order.

That is the so called Grosser Roter Adlerorden, awarded between 1792 and 1810, before the Order was split up in 3 classes and got his final shape.

indeed a quite unusual Combo and indeed most likely a Major.

active guy, sure a Captain in 1914, WW1 Major,  maybe retired Lt Col.

we are still short of good info on Lippe-Detmold recipients, but sooner or later I am sure, this bar gets a Name back.

The missing of the Hindenburg cross might indicate, that the bar was made before 1934...

Numbers, how many bravery medals went to Germany is unknown to me, for sure there were thousands.

Lots of German units served alongside Austrians in the east and south.

No. 2 different things...

As I mentioned, about 5.000 combatants EK2 on the black ribbon were awarded for merits at home.

The EK2 on the white ribbon for civilians and officials was awarded about 3.000 times in WW1 and about 10.000 times in the years after.

I am not aware of ANY Bavarian enlisted or NCO with the Prussian MVK.

There was one with the Hohenzollern Inhaber with swords - legendary Max Müller, but thats all.

Dear v. Perlet,

Please understand finally that this special war ribbon for the MVO was NOT introduced until 1913.... so the pic can NOT pre-date this year.

Awardees who got the MVO for war merits with swords before 1913 did still wear it on the standard ribbon...but could wear it AFTER 1913 on the new created war ribbon.

Its a plain WW1 pic. Nothing more.
