    1. Ahh, I only ask because it's these little things that most throw away and are getting rarer over the years that I find interesting. You are building a great collection from A to Z.
    2. Would love to know who the other buyer was!! Probably owns a private island.
    3. What about the injustice done to the hamster? Sounds like police brutality to me...
    4. Major work is done - carpet, painting, cleaning - now it's just wait for the right buyer to come along.

Actually, we are under contract. Closing date is 24 June. We close on our new house 20 May. All is good. Just need to get through home inspector this Saturday.

    5. Waiting on the carpet guys. More like a wasted morning.

Today I'm watching painters (and paint dry). Yea, I know. Painting before carpets. But it's only two room and you get workers when you can.

You certainly are Mr. General Contractor aren't you? Keep at it. Let us know how it turns out. Or better yet, let us know how the wife thinks it turned out. That's what counts.

Actually what counts is selling the house in a week. All that matters at this point. Then she can start choosing colors for the new house.

    6. I wonder if my wife is planning on a new husband to go with her dream house. Today she suggested I change/repair several light fixtures since she has the day off and can be here if I electrocute myself. Hmmm.

    7. Well, I was hoping for an invitation for gulyás with csipetke to go along with the coffee.
    8. Painting and interviewing realtors to sell this house and move to wife's dream home. Forgot how much I dislike handyman work.

All advice is welcome and good. After 30 years in the Army, we've only bought 2 houses and sold only one - this will be the second. Of course, the "dream home" is meant to be the last one we'll own.

Interviewed two realtors so far; one's low price was the others high price. The 3rd one will be the tie breaker.

Painting and new carpet. That's all we'll do... Since we have a cat, we figure the price of new carpet will help ensure we aren't on the market too long.

    9. Nice. I really like these little memorials all over Europe. Quite interesting. This one will cause me to make a coffee stop in Komárom should I ever be in the region.
    10. Buying a new house. Wife says THIS TIME I get a war room. Why am I skeptical?

No, I meant she is going to let ME have a war room. It's her dream house though; waterfront, private pier, view of the Chesapeake Bay. Large garden. Two sun rooms etc etc.

It's the house I'll probably die in too... :-)

OK. Hmmm, waterfront, pier, view, garden, sun rooms...sounds like hell! I can understand why you have misgivings. ;) I'm sure there is space for a war room somewhere in the house.

    11. So, far, US and UK...and now Hungary! Come on I know there are more out there!
    12. Great site; thanks for sharing. Let's keep the thread going!
    13. I do not know if it was awarded during the annual maneuvers (although that makes sense). I'll have to do some more digging. I have an Prussian artillery handbook lying about somewhere; perhaps it mentions criteria. In the meantime, have a look at this thread; it has some photos of the badge being worn. http://gmic.co.uk/index.php/topic/55462-question-on-kaiserabzeichen-koenigsabzeichen/?hl=kaiserabzeichen
    14. I hate leaves. Why is it that my lawn/garden attracts all the leaves? I think I'm finally rid of most of the winter mess.

    15. This is the sleeve badge for the "Kaiserschießpreis für die Artillerie 1912" English: Kaiser's Shooting Prize for Artillery Awarded for excellence with their weapons. It's a unit award.
    16. I rescued it from a recalcitrant Unreconstructed Rebel Pot meet kettle.
    17. Start a new thread with that theme... I'd be willing to state that for small US towns and villages, the Civil War had the same impact as WWI for European towns and villages. I think both of these topics would make an interesting coffee table book.
    18. Well done and thanks for sharing. Priceless photo now with a story.
    19. Kind of cool... Doesn't indicated by which unit/ship it was received/typed, does it?
    20. Thumb drive actually.... I was going to post this one in the "Iconic Weapons" thread...
    21. Yea, I know you lack some basic skills. It's that mortar training.
