November 6, 2007 at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo, Japan, His Imperial Majesty the Emperor Akihito, assisted by Yasuo Fukuda, the Prime Minister of Japan, bestowed the Grand Cordon of the order of the rising sun upon IAAF (International Association of Athletics Federations) President Diack. President Diack was awarded with Grand Cordon “in honor of his outstanding contribution to the diffusion and progress of the sports as well as to the successful realization of the IAAF World Championships in Athletics, Osaka 2007”.

    9. From world of business... Chairman of New Visions Solutions Ltd. Momtazuddin Bhuiyan received 5th class of rising sun order November the 3rd, 2008. He was awarded for his outstanding contribution in Japan Bangladesh relationship in the field of business development, technical cooperation and spreading Japanese language and culture in Bangladesh for more than three decades.
    10. Dr. Paul Y. Tashiro, Professor of Old Testament and Biblical Languages at Wesley Biblical Seminary and President of the Japan - America Society of Mississippi and holder of 5th class rising sun order (awarded in 2007). Dr. Tashiro was awarded for his "outstanding contributions to Japanese people in the United States and Japan-U.S. relations".

    12. What we need is a Nobel Prize winner. Tsung-Dao Lee, University Professor at Columbia University, Nobel Prize laureate and Director Emeritus of the RIKEN Brookhaven National Laboratory Research Center (RBRC) and holder of 2nd class. Awarded January 15, 2007 for his work of fostering Japanese researchers and promoting academic exchange between Japan and the US in the field of physics.

On June 10, 2008 3rd class of rising sun order has been awarded to Professor Jack Perry Strong, Boyd Professor of Pathology, Louisiana State University, New Orleans, USA and former President of the IAP and long time Hon. Treasurer of the USCAP and the IAP. The decoration recognizes he’s outstanding contributions to academic and cultural exchanges between Japan and the United States of America.
