"Awarded for bravery in the Great East Asia War Order of the Golden Kite 5th Class and the Order of the Rising Sun 5th Class".

Bought recently these two interesting award documents. Both connected with Army Captain Kurata Mamoru. One is document issued by Decorations Bureau and dated Showa 17 [1942] January 2. This one shows he was awarded the Order of the Golden Kite 5th Class and the Order of the Rising Sun 5th Class. Another one was issued bt Army Ministry and dated Showa 17 [1942] October 2. This shows that Kurata's father was given a cash award of 4,000 yen upon the death of his son. Hopefully it will be interesting to examine these doc`s especially in connection with our old thread http://gmic.co.uk/in...es/page__st__20

Hmmm... I wonder if they translated the name of the society right The only medal that I can think will be Merit Badge of Imperial Aviation Society (Teikoku Hikou Kyoukai), [after 1940 it was called Great Japan Aviation Association (Dai-Nippon Hikoukai)]. It is indeed looks like a medal and usually hanging from the ribbon that has reverse colors of rising sun order ribbon. Rare and beatiful one. Made in high-grade gold Here it is.

Either this or they were using one badge as prototype for another ;)

Wrong enamel, wrong gold gilt, wrong riverts, wrong reverse pin, fake (and quite dilettante) patina, wrong thickness and style of kanji on reverse ;)

She is wise! I wonder if it was reselling the piece that rub you the wrong way (quite natural and understandable reaction ) ... :whistle:
