Bison, Thank you for all the informative replys. I've looked over the LoH link to the Belgian museum and added it to my reference file. It is interesting to see how much Liverpool medals wants for their hybrid as I found mine on Ebay for $350 USD. Another question, I recently aquired a 3rd Republic officer grade done in gold. It is quite different from the material of the two 3rd Republic Chavalier pieces I have but looks identical to the one pictured on the belgian museum site. My question is wehter gold is the standard for the officer grade medals or would a gold one be a custom made medal. Thanks again for your replies, Garth

Order of the Academic Palm, officer, cased. Reputed to have been awarded to an American professor in 1908 but without direct provenance.

This horizon blue uniform, ebay # 350156946632 , is listed as a WW1 French NCOs uniform but the cut and style don't look like what I've usually seen pictured or illustrated as a WW1 uniform. What do you all think. I'm not a WW1 uniform collector so could be all wet on this one. Garth

For all the cursing of ebay there are still interesting things to be found. I found this interesting Vichy armband and won it at a very good price. It is the armband for the Service des Gardes Des Voles et des Communications or the Service of Guards of Highways and Communications. Foreign Legions of the Third Reich, Vol 1 pg 195. Garth

A very unusual italian made French War correspondent patch and a painted italian made metal version of the CEF insignia probably used as a cap badge.

What I think is a french made variation and a US made example.

As a matter of interest I thought the members would like to see a selection of insignia of the Corps Expeditionaire Francais en Italie. The patch has been identified in error as the French 2nd Army in the US. According to Insignes Tissus L'Armee Francaise de 1945 a 2000 volume 1 it is for the French Expeditionary Corps (Italy).
