    1. Here is my collection of US medals I now have on display. Most are original unfortunately non are numbered or named but they still look great and I have had great pleasure not only in collecting them but also learning about the history behind the medals and why they were awarded. The small Stars & Stripes was originally used on staff cars by the USAF at Upper Heyford Airbase England and was given to me by a guy from the 55th Life Support.
    2. Thanks for the pics guys. When I get the chance I will photo the reverse of the GC's and post on this topic.
    3. Here is my collection of Long Service Good Conduct medals. Left to right, Army, Navy, Marine Corp, Coast Guard and Air Force. All original issue.
    4. Sounds good Tim. I have received my Asiatic-Pacific Campaign medal today. Would love to post a picture but my camera is no more and i have to buy a replacement? However the pacific medal is a 12mm crimped brooch with flat suspender hub. Color is somewhere between the 2 shown above and great detail. Once I have a new camera will post for comparison as well as the campaign and EAME.
    5. Definitely worth setting up a a topic about US medals and the various strikings, brooch mounts etc. I have a number of US medals in my collection from WW1 and 2 and have found it an interesting area to collect and not that expensive in terms of medal costs although the earlier original struck medals especially Purple Hearts and WW1 Victorys with bars are more expensive. I have 2 Bronze stars and a silver star with original slotted brooch mountings and the EAME, American Campaign plus just recently acquired a pacific Campaign medal.
    6. Plate on rear of frame. Note the mistake reference the date of MIA 18th instead of 28th.
    7. I recently acquired this Pewter framed picture of Lt Ralph Shaw DSO ,11th Battalion Royal Warwickshire Regiment. Missing in Action 28th April 1917 Aged 20 and Remembered with honour Arras Memorial. His DSO was gazetted 18th July 1917. "For conspicuous gallantry and ability in action. When all the senior officers of the brigade had become casualties he assumed charge of the whole line and showed great courage and judgement under very heavy fire in organising the consolidation".
    8. Thanks Tony, just did some more research on the web and you are correct LN is for parc de artilleire Lyon. I have put this shell casing alongside my other ww1 and ww2 casings (uncleaned). I have a selection of British and German also as well as a 1970 US HEAT recoiless rifle round (complete).
    9. DIVES shell casing 350mm high x 75mm dia. To clean or not to clean that is the question?
    10. Just acquired this shell casing from a local car boot sale. 75mm diameter x 350mm high. Marked DIVES (3) 33.L. 1907.D Not sure of origin of this, DIVES sounds French? Does anyone have any idea?
    11. Bought this US Navy/USMC Commendation medal today to add to my collection.
    12. Thanks Tim much appreciate your time to let me know about the different brooch types. I do have another army good conduct medal with the crimp brooch already in my collection but couldn't resist this one with the slotted brooch.
    13. Managed to have a look at the brooches on my US medals, the Bronze Star is the only one with a slotted brooch. The others are all crimp but the finish on them apart from the bottom 3 right and the Occupation medal suggest these were issued maybe some time ago? I have also just picked up 2 good conduct medals Army and Air Force. Army is ww2/korea issue but air force is later but not modern.
    14. Found it! "Wartime Red Cross collection", page 3 of this section, collectors showcase if you are interested?:D
    15. Nice collection. I have a few medals and badges mainly British Red Cross. Some are from WW1 & WW2. I also have a german Red Cross ladies badge with swastika and Japanese Red Cross medal plus a Japanese lacquerware dish celebrating Red Cross anniversary. It's a different area to collect but still as enjoyable as collecting military medals, badges etc. I did post mine last year but can't remember in which section. Nice collection though and well presented in their frame!
    16. I have seen the commemerative medal with larger swords on the ribbons, any significance as to the ones on my medal being smaller?
