Herds are not just known to be seen with respect to the best herder badge but also with Sukhbaatar's!
Here's mine.
Beware, risk of enamel overdosis which can be harmful to your life savings!

Thank you . i have take Dr B's bible!
Good, that is step 1. From now on you'll have to stop work or other activities 4 times a day, kneel to the direction of Ulaan Bataar and spend 15 minutes memorizing Dr B's bible. Otherwise one will never know the A.7's and C.32's by heart!

Friendly bit of advice: if you are going to spend money on Mongolian awards, I'd suggest you spend your first $ on buying Dr B's bible!

Just in - nice intermediate version.

Back to the Soyombo... could it be, like the SB, ORB, PS, etc. that there is just a more recent "cheaper" version of it being awarded?

Here's a Prawema first and second class. Note, for identification apart from the Prawema on the screw, the little "nick" at 6 o clock on reverse. From the manufacturing process I guess.

A sports badge and a XV army badge
Note the number on reverse

If I recall correctly this auction house had a documented one for sale. If not, then still a GREAT catalogue to review online. Be aware: you will get greedy from reviewing the catalogue!

Bob,
the same Hero Star is for sale here on the forum and on the WAF-forum too. Here the link to the sales-thread on this forum:

I can?t say anything to the originality of this piece, although i must say, my first thought was, that it looked odd compared to others.
Gerd
I have an original of both types 1 and 2 of Gold Soyombo and this one just looks like a copy:
- poor enamel on the award itself
- incorrect screw
- enamel on ribbon not corresponding with known examples
- reverse also not in line (more crude)
- etc.
- etc.
Look here for comparison

Yes, that fantasy Internal Security badge is the same one that was making the rounds -- and being universallly laughed at -- when I was in Ulanbaatar this summer. It is the first outright fantasy-fake Mongolian item spotted; some fakes are out there, expecially Medal of Unselfishness and some fake foreign Soviet Lenin 100s (though these may be coming out of the former CCCP).
I have the strong suspicion that there are also fake Gold Soyombo's in circulation. Have been offered one directly for sale (different photographs which were clearly not of the same item) and there is now also one for sale on soviet-awards.com that has sparked my suspicion

The Pobeda Factory also made the Badge commemorating the 15th Anniversary of the Peoples rmy that was awarded in 1958 (unfortunately, I do not have one of those to show).
When I get home this evening I'll post pics of 2 badges I recently acquired (as well as some other Albanian goodies). Off the top of my head I think the one you are mentioning is one of them.

Hi Eric - and it's very pleasurable to collect an area which doesn't have so many "competitors" / colleagues - a real adventure.
My collection has progressed since this photo. In a few days when back home I'll post 2 new badges (one of them numbered) I received recently.

Yep I got the same email
The thing that got me was on the fake docs thread there is a fake a doc for this medal number
Order of Victory
That appears to settle it then - although interesting to know in what way it is fake... and is also the award itself fake?

Got this one offered for sale - not that often that such a document is seen of course.

I asked quite a number of Bulgarian sellers if their awards were researchable, and the normal response I received was something to the effect of "why would you even WANT something like that???" None of them knew how to do it or knew of anyone that did. I can't imagine that the serial numbered awards wouldn't have been recorded somewhere though...
Dave
Mmm worries for later then. Expecting to receive an early edition, number Bulgarian Order of Dimitrov then. Next step: figuring out who's it was and for what!

What's the dictionary you are using (i.e. titel, edition, etc.) - I should get one myself as well to make life easier!

I've accumulated quite some loose ribbons over time and have "allocated" them to various boxed / documented / group awards to make those sets more "complete" for display purposes.
This leaves me with a bunch of ribbons for which I have no direct use at this moment and I am willing to trade (not sell!) them for ones which I am still looking for. Shoot me a mail if you see anything interesting AND have an interesting ribbon to trade it for.
I am looking for:
- Sukhbaatar (brass / cloth)
- Order of Red Combat Valor (cloth)
- Order of Combat Valor (cloth)
- Medal of Khalkhin Gol (seperate, so not on a ribbon bar)
- Medal of Unselfishness
- Medal of Friendship

Here then the more recent ones. What surprises me is complete lack of standardization. I'd expect same size, same reverse construction etc and just some slight differences to designate that it's an outstanding worker in a different field but I guess that would be too structured for Mongolian awards:)
Even to the point where one of these little ones has 2 screws!!!

I like these badges and collect them when they are in the specific shape that I'm looking for. Let's do a cross-section of a few of them.
First a scan shows what I believe are more older ones. The first two, from the screw, manufactured in Leningrad mint. subsequently "quality" seems to deteriorate... next one still heavy brass + rivets... next one still rivets but lighter metal... last one very light and simple construction. All of these still with an older "logo" for Mongolian state.
Next up will be a pic of more recent ones... no longer the same logo but rather usage of Soyombo symbol and much "cheaper" feel to them.

Looks awfully similar but different. Brass, 2 rivets on reverse... and nr 34 (rotating tool engraved - difficult to see on scan).

I am interesting in acquiring 1 or 2 or so but with so few pictures around to review before purchase it's a bit confusing. Would it be possible for you to post some comparative pics (incl. reverse) of the various Tamara's you have in your possession?

Let's add some more "weight" to this discussion:
- screwback nr 559 without the screw: a whopping 59.2gr + 14.5gr for the screw
- pinback nr 1863: 59.4
- pinback nr 1966: 58.6
