    1. Just finished reading the diaries of this yappy little brownnoser (read the diary if you disagree) and couldn't help but post on this pic. The ability to lie to millions of people with a straight face and write the truth later in a book is something else...anyways, can you post a pic of the reverse as well Dan? It must be hard to authenticate a signature like this, as it is even hard to authenticate modern sports autographs. I guess you have to rely on the source and maybe an expert opinion or two. Any tips on authentic autographs and how to spot one are welcome as I'm sure it is not an easy thing to do, and thanks for posting Dan

      Pat

I picked up a copy of Albert Speers memoires a while back... interesting read... gave me the same feeling of the movie Der Untergang... the empire just crumbling around them. The memoires was an autographed copy and was accompanied by some autographed letters (on Albert Speer personal letterhead) and photographs. One small letter is interesting... he's writing to a collector and giving him the address of Admiral Donitz so the person can also contact him.

    2. Be careful - substantial part of her "story" is apparently a scam (google it and you can read about it).

On a sidenote, I visited The Chernobyl area incl. the reactor (which isn't in Chernobyl actually) myself late last year... not via an expensive paid tour but smuggled in through the two exclusion zones by the local maffia lord who's responsible for dismantling old reactors (selling the metal in Donetsk), importing petrol into the exclusion zone and all transportation within the exclusion zone. Came up to 100 meters from THE reactor... scary!

Interesting: there's a nice bar in Chernobyl continously full of drunk people... nice Cognac they have there... and if you get really drunk there's even (not kidding!) an ATM!

    3. Hi Bob:

That second class one may be a Soviet made one from the 1945 production. There's a GOZNAK invoice from July 1945 for the gold, silver, and non precious metals used while making Albanian decorations. I've seen a Soviet made gold one and yours seems to be consistent with that. Great find! I only have a (presumably) Pr?wema made 3rd class - I'd LOVE to get a hold of a Soviet made 2nd or 1st class...

      Cheers,

      Eric

Thanks Eric - how do you recognize that it's possibly Soviet... indeed the more "flat" (i.e. without the evenly spread "dimples" below the "glazing") enamel?

    4. I suspect that was the sole Mongolian "guest cosmonaut" and I doubt it is in anyone's possession (except his). Information, please, Bob??

Strangely, for such a good friend, Choibalasan never got a HSU. Maybe he just died too early? And, for all the doo-dads he made up to give Brezhnev, Tsedenbal never got one either. How's THAT for gratitude?!

Not as Mongolian as you'd like... but close.

    5. I suspect this guy was important and enjoyed travelling :P

    6. I've also come back on this... the hype may be over, but so is the strong supply of quality pieces.

I think it's time to introduce the "Sukhbaatar" index... I predict that by end of this year you'll be looking at paying 3.000 USD if you want to purchase one from one of the western dealers.

Why? Because apparently currently dealers wishing to replenish their stock from Mongolian sources apparently need to pay around 1.800 USD for an SB.

    7. A friend of mine recently returned from a trip through former Yugoslavia and brought back a nice metal plaque with the buste of Tito on a beatiful wood backing. I examined it and flipped it around to see the back... where it said IKOM to which I burst out with pleasure "ah, IKOM in Zagreb"

should have seen the look on his face when I explained where it came from... knowing this of course due to my interest in Albanian awards. This leads to the question: is the rest of the world crazy, or is it us phalerists which are crazy? :P

I am loving this website - too bad pictures are a bit small!

Note, this probably means some (like for instance one of the Hero of Labor stars I have) on the market are in fact unawarded ones.

    9. Gotta download this pic and post here later - how cool!
