    1. Occasionally I've seen some HSL stories which are easy to understand why it's valued so exceptionally in USSR: researching nuclear weapons for instance.

But what I then don't get is all the HSLs (e.g. on one of the dealer websites with 2 Order of Lenins attached to it) for "mere" farming. Must be a one hellofa HUGE farm...

    2. Lovely stuff, I can take photos of boxed goodies too. Maybe I should . . . .

The high-end boxed / documented stuff is cool of course but it's the little unexpected gems which give a lot of satisfaction.

I still haven't figured out why there's (fairly unique) a mint mark on the ring of one of my Mongolian mining medals (well, offically: badge).

On a different note... if anybody can produce a list of Mongolians who have received a high end Soviet award then that would be very much appreciated.

    3. For instant gratification, see here:

No waiting for months and months and months when Marshall can post the Official Biography and a blurry retouched portrait from the HSU biographies!

Will look forward to seeing the group and individual awards researched in the Rsearched subforum when all is in!

Thanks guys. Will post details once the deal is completed... otherwise I might get all excited full of anticipation only to be let down if the deal falls through

Next to the HSU and Lenin there is also an order patriotic war 2nd class awarded on 24th march 1945 in his booklet. The booklet is an official duplikat from '72.

Anyway, I'm rambling on. Nothing to be found on www.warheroes.ru about this guy so it will be interesting what research will dig up.

    4. Never get a chance to make a first impression right? Well, this is how I "display" my awards: in an old shoebox!

Still looking for a nice antique entimologists (spelling ok?) cabinet - the kind with many drawers with a glass top on each of them to showcase butterflies, spiders, etc.

Anyway... will follow with some better pics that do give an overview of (part of) the collection.

Main focus when I started was on Soviet medals. This focus has shifted to exclusively Mongolian and - finding it increasingly difficult to fill the gaps in that collection - moving back to Soviet in the future with a particular interest in HSU, HSL, Mother Heroine and state prizes. I'm also very keen on finding Soviet awards given to Mongolians or vice versa. Have 2 such sets in my collection, both groups of awards given to a Mongolian:

      - bottom left hand corner: Soviet victory over Japan medal + two Mongolian 50 year medals

      - bottom right: group containing one Soviet border guard medal

      Enjoy!

    5. ORDER OF THE RED BANNER OF MILITARY VALOUR (Baildaani gav'yaany ulaan tugiin odon) (Орден Боевого Красного Знамени) (1945--)

      High = 86

    6. Really? Were documents still issued in Mongolian script after 1960?? The post-1960 arms are used on D 05, but the post-1940 arms on D 03a and D 03b. Would have expected a Cyrillic document that late?? I would surely have expected Cyrillic was "gifted" by the Friendly Northern Neighbor in 1941, but Mongolian before that.

Huh? I was referring to the red booklet.

    7. We didn't have this one covered yet.

One version in enamel, one painted.

      Both numbered

      Enameled: I have 31 with range known between 31 - 2,084

      Painted: range known 2,214 - 3,869

Nobody with a number in between 2214 and 2084?

Also - surely must be somebody with a booklet to put some dates next to this medal?

I own 31 and 2214 by the way.
