And here is scan number 2
0 -
OK - I'll start off... have an award booklet which I'm not able to trace to a specific order. The 3 red words (3rd or 4th scan) which gives details on date / number but also on award should clarify. I understand that the word "gold" is in it... so what award is it then?

And here's the inside. The seal is of the ministry of defense.

I do have a document in my possession.
Faded on the outside - probably not visible on scan but there are traces of goldish colored letters / symbols on the cover. The number 29 (i.e. 1939?) is in the inside of the booklet.

Here we go then: new low... no 342
This has got to be the most beautiful item in my collection.

Just in - pinback no 1966

If I remember well, you were the one who was very proud to announce the you had the new lowest serial number, so it must have WOW-ed you at least a little
Paid something like 5 euro's for it. Was more a "WHY NOT?" effect

Here you go.
Please don't bombard with pics UNLESS it's a different type or if same type but new high/low. After all, I think we all know what this order looks like:)

Supposedly (but perhaps I'm not up to date) four variations:
A 200 49,238 screwback, hand-engraved (mine: 44245 / 15709)
B 52,404 169,768 screwback, rotating-tool engraved no (mine: 103150)
C 144,726 200,305 order-type pinback (mine: 170984)
D 182,119 197,517 simplified small pinback (mine... surprise: 179876)
Any types I missed? Please add pic!
My pics to follow for above four types.

I can honestly not imagine why you think a soviet znachki would make this great Mongolian thread more interesting, pfff

Thanks for the 40th MPR scan
Well, let's face it... you have to be quite a numbers fetisjist to enjoy looking at a 40th MPR just because it has a low number. Not exactly a medal which has a large "WOW" effect:)

Let's get this complete.
Based on input I've read sofar, there are three variations:
A 19 - 9,176 being the screwback, hand-engraved
B 14,122 - 86,844 screwback, rotating-tool engraved no (mine: 18,691)
C 59,906 - 60,054 pinback
I've attached a pic of type B.
Any types missing? Please add pics!
Seperate thread to follow for 2nd class.

A working scanner makes things a lot easier... no more 1MB digital photpgraphs:)
On the right: Gold (not full) - 1000
On the left: Silver - 1.370
Note, slightly different color of screw.

Finally took the old scanner out of the box and threw some medals under it. Hope the number is readable.
To make the thread more interesting, I'll also add pic of my weird Lenin (50% of people call it fake (safest thing to do of course) other 50% are PMing me to offer me money because they think it's a tractor Lenin prototype)!

I have a new low for Medal-40 years of the MPR (#A43): 00565

On one of the dealer sites (initials RG) there is one with new highest number.
Also, in a week or two I'll have the new lowest number in my possession:)
Pics to follow then of course.

For "completeness" purposes. I have 4 different Uighur script OPS's (from left to right - two right hand ones with booklet):
no 57 - mint mark at 12 / number at 6 'o clock and completely visible when screw is on
no 307 - mint mark at 12 / number at 6 'o clock and number half covered by screw
no 1562 - no mint mark / number at 7 'o clock and number completely visible
no 2082 - mint mark at 12 / number at six but very close to screw and fully covered when screw is on
Pics of order booklet for 1562 are show above already (a 1946 booklet). Will post order booklet for 2082 next (36 whopping pages! although I don't see the typical depiction of order number in it - nor does it make sense to have a 1940 order booklet for this high number... so is it even the correct order booklet?)

Oh Yeah, just the usual stuff
Very nice Glenn, congratulations.
Jan
On a Soviet medal forum, a typical "order"-envy induced person would now come up and say: "sorry, they look fake to me... I don't quite like the patina on them"

Interesting. I too have been out-done, but I received no second-chance offer....
I've received offers for sale direct... confirmed interest... only then to never hear back.
This whole Mongolian collecting is just odd!

The Sukhbaatar list was compiled with info from Dr Battushig's book, a book on Soviet Generals and hours of Google-ing.
For the moment the lists reside at the Mongolian President's office, where sofar not even Dr Battushig has been authorized to study them.
Jan
Do you have an address (website?) for this office?

Anybody here with any reliable sources on award numbers linked to awardees?
How did the list with names for the Sukh bator for instance get compiled? Are there institutions in Mongolia that can be contacted to provide info?
