"the enamel is real, old and original "hot enamel".I have it in my collection for a very long time already,c.3o-4o years" and he also mentioned he got it while travelling 30-40 years ago either in CSSR, DDR or Hungary (he can't remember).

This is the one pictured also in Herfurth's catalogue.

    2. Well he looks about as unhappy as I am that I sold documented badge #21 many moons ago...

Maybe it is a case of "i kicked ass as a partisan and all I got for it was this lousy badge":)

This is always the difficulty of collecint, at some point it is letting go. I have been thinking last weeks about actually selling my entire Mongolian collection in a year or 2-3, paying down mortgage, and focussing purely on Albanian. Wasn't able to make up my mind, but not as "attached" to material items anymore as in the past, including my medals collection.

    3. Now that I'm in process of moving back to Germany (Stuttgart area), I'm getting to see that they do like their militaria in Germany:) Another show planned on 4/5 June in the town of Illingen near Stuttgart. Appears to be organized by Uwe Bretzendorfer (bretzendorfer.de). On the prowl for maybe some Tamara or Albanian items,

    4. I was there today. First time that I've visited such a fair. My observations:

      - picked up a nice Mongolian documented Partisan badge! :)

      - "diverse" things to see (from clothing to fire arms to orders/medals to sausages, etc.)... but a LARGE amount of 3rd Reich ODM etc. (and related ehm clientele...)

      - was surprised to see so much 3rd Reich stuff from the San Giorgio Aste auction (especially parts of the top group being split up in that auction) spread out over multiple dealers at the fair

      - not a lot of Soviet ODM - was surprised to see a group of Russians prowling all the stands in search of good Soviet stuff (I didn't get the impression it was cheap)

      - saw an AMAZING amount of pre-socialist Albanian awards which made me drool, especially with one Italian dealer... and the prices seemed reasonable but I didn't buy (not enough cash + i felt uncomfortable buying "new" items - new for my collection that is - without good reference pics at hand).

Overall, an interesting stroll and wish I had had more time. Just window shopping (and people watching) was a lot of fun already and I'd highly recommend visiting such a fair at least once.

    5. Lucky day! Alexei just put up some new Mongolian items... including an addition to above group:

"MEMBER OF THE GOVERNMENT BADGE w/DOC Deputy of the People's Great Khural (1970-1990) - Battushig B 03. Serial number is 190. Made of silver, gold-plating, and enamels. Excellent condition with very light patina, screwplate is original. Comes with original document (matching serial number) to Honored Construction Worker Yondon Tovuu (from #2 of Documented Groups above), who was member of the People's Great Khural in 1969-1973. Document shows age and wear, photo missing. Comes with a bonus trade union membership booklet to the same person."

Items now in my possession and group held intact (who knows what more is out there of course). There's something about these deputy badges which just makes them very nice.

    6. By the way: I wonder why did they choose so archaic kind of the weapon? It's PPSh - the Soviet WW II' machine gun. Most of other afro-asiatic communist countries (like Burkina Faso, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Algeria etc) prefered to use in their heraldry more modern, sophisticated and familiar Kalashnikov rolleyes.gif

      Interesting point. Just guessing:

      - could be due to the country of manufacture influencing the design?

      - could be due to Yemen... how shall i put it... not being the most modern of societies and therefore still using old weapons?

    7. "SB's with that low numbers aren't on the market often, and certainly not at sane prices. E.g. collectrussia now as nr 607 for sale for 4900,- USD."

      Right.

      I know.

"In my eyes, that's really excessive in the current market..."

Well, imho if it wasn't the global crisis, the current market price would probably be higher...

"...there are still 1-2 items for which I'd break the bank... a type 1 Polar Star for example."

Imho most probably the nicest Mongolian Order, with A 1 (Dr. Battushig's reference) following it very closely.

      Dolf

Mmm scary thought that things could be even more expensive once recession is over:(

It puzzles me why there's so few type 1 polar stars ever for sale. It seems like there's always a Soyombo or two on the market somewhere, but type 1 polar star... virtually never.
