Give a shout if there's a specific document you'd like to have a close-up shot from. First, some pic's of the man himself mixed with a few doc's. In chronological order. His first award was the Soviet victory medal (famous unit 9999 as mentioned elsewhere on this site).

Then, the big overview... this guy has more "mandat"/deputy booklets than I can handle! 52 documents in total, all to one and the same person.

And now for an incomplete but very documented labour (a politician i suspect) group.
Haven't decyphered the chaps name yet. First the group of awards itself.

Ha - lucky me, the answer is only a few posts above me in the same thread :speechless:

Have a look at below site (may be interesting for several reasons
)
http://dolf-soviet-mongolian-awards.blogspot.com/
Now, looking at Lot 9, the award document has a rather interesting first line. Could it be an indication of a replacement award? Anybody else with such an example?

ebay: 380121844184
the middle order on his left, it reminds me of the old style industrialization order... but it isn't, is it?

And there are, literally, tons of photos in the archives!
Perhaps some of that stuff (or at least similar) finds it's way to ebay (just check right now, for instance)

Your posts are tempting me again Ed
More to "know" the story and if it's real than to "have it" in my own hands actually.
Wish I could (sounds like an old Twilight Zone episode) freeze time, walkk into the Mongolian archives and spend at least a few days just "browsing" :cheeky:

No, these rosettes (for Mongolian and even Soviet awards) were more common than we think, though they have usually gone missing.
A nbice site by the way! Thanks.
Umphf... thats a nice picture!

It would be interesting to know the number of Sukhbaatar's ORB (in the UB museum) or Choibalsan's (once in a a known location, but now??). What if the numbers were 5 or 6 numberrs away from this??
The best picture I have of Sukhbaatar's. Not very helpful.
Mmm a good reason for you to return to Mongolia and for a lot of the rest of us to finally visit it
I was told there were 4 mongolians who received a red banner at the same ceremony... who knows...

To clarify a point, the seller indicated he'd not want it back if it was sent for expertise and deemed a fake because - here it comes - he'd not know for sure if he might then be getting a very good fake back.
Which (circular logic, I know) implies he doesn't really know if he's selling a fake or not now either.
I do not know for sure (of course) if it's a fake, all I'm doing is passing on this one. As mentioned, happy to help anybody else get this one and I'm getting the research (if possible) anyway so hopefully we can read more on this later.

Perhaps, but I'll pass on this one. For fun, i'll request the research from Russian archives anyway.
If anybody on the board would like to acquire the item (and I'll throw the research - if any - in for free) just PM me and I'll help to facilitate it (the asking price is NOT low).

What evidence is there? I am not saying it is one way or the other, just I haven't seen any presuasive arguments (here or "elsewhere").
I do think there are some legitimate questions and issues. But I just don't see a convincing judgment.
Given the difficulties that would ensue in getting this to you, there would be no way for you ever to get it back, so I am somewhat sympathetic with the seller.
Perhaps, but why would a seller want an award back if it was a fake?
I guess in these cases it's very, very difficult to have "conclusive" conclusions... even more so without being able to present the award physically to an expert for review. The "story" beind the award is good, and perhaps I should just (try to) get the research anyway.

I suggest to move this thread to the fake section for now. Offered to have it reviewed (at my expense) by Alexei first but the seller was not interested in that (response: what if they replace it by a very good fake?). :speechless:

http://www.mongoliancoins.com/site.php
A very well designed site on Mongolian coins (of course) from a member of the Mongolian Numismatic Association. Click on Gallery and then look at the pic right above Tsedenbal... interesting, the award is on his jacket with a rosette underneath!
The group picture with the first Mongolian ambassadors is also very nice.

Voila http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Order_of_the_Cloud_and_Banner
So, 9 grades... that narrows it down:)

"Yun-Hui" = Order of the Cloud and Banner.
"Yun-Hui" is the transliteration most commonly used in US paperwork relating to such an award. To transliterate the award name through Russian could easily bring up "Yoon Gui" or several similar sounding names.
Excellent - thank you so much
Indeed, one little mystery solved
Now to google what an Order of the Cloud and Banner actually looks like :jumping:

Perhaps some tansliteration problems from Chinese to Russian to English, but maybe what is commonly transliterated as "Yun-Hui" in US paperword (Order of the Cloud and Banner).
Thanks - i'm confused though, what does "in US paperword (Order of the Cloud and Banner)." mean?

I did not think that they were awarding that type this late.
I'm no expert, but there's a 1930's and a 1940's date, no?

a potentially very interesting scan still missing (
) is a photograph of a high placed Russian person actually awarding it... seller supposedly has it, but no scan for me yet
