and finally close-up of the blue document of which the badge I suspect is in Bat's book somewhere

The (more than) suspected aviation document

Bottom right - no clue what this is for...

Bottom left doc - anything to be concluded from the interior?

4 docs which I'll scan (interior) in close up... suspect left top relates to aviation but no clue which one in Bat's book. Top right must be in Bat's book somewhere but haven't been able to find it (yet).

OK, here we go... some kind of police/security guy:
Top row, starting left:
- V06 - MRYL youth pin - no award date
- ? - no award date
- suspect this is a modern day state prosecution badge document - refers to 2001 - will close up later
- 2 unkown modern items to the right (top one awarded 12-2-2007, bottom one 29-9-2004)
Middle area:
- on the left in white an unkown award (nr 30) awarded 18-3-2002 (will post a closeup later)
- below that something else which leaves me guessing (closeup coming later as well) (awarded 23-5--1985)
- then a police badge (colored yellow/red; Bat F02 or F03) awarded 9-7-1979, number 494
- ? - above that a small paper document which I'll close up later (awarded 13-3-1976)
Below row:
- suspect this may be the doc for the 50 year security badge (Bat C08 - which refers to 1922 - 1972) which came with this group and is showed high in the pic (awarded 14-7-1972 so matching Bat's dates)
- ? (awarded 27-11-1989)
- Medal 50 years of the police of the MPR (awarded 9-7-1971)

More documented groups coming... these require some checking up vs. Bat's book first though. These'll be BIG groups with LOT's of documents.

And another one, a documented group of badges belonging to an Honorary Contruction worker (welder) Yondon Tovuu.
Alexei mentions his bio is published in the Mongolian Directory on Heroes of MPR, Labor Heroes and People's and Merited Title holders so will have to look that up later. Maybe somebody can help translate. The group includes:
- Outstanding Construction Worker of Mongolia Badge (NB mentions quite some detail: made of German silver, goldplating and enamels. Hungarian manufacture) which comes with a blue hard cover document hand signed by Minister of Construction of Mongolia Mr. Pleihan. Awarded in 1976
- Badge for 60th Anniversary of Mongolian Construction Sector. Made of brass and red enamel. Awarded in 1986. Comes with a paper back document with an original ink stamp of the Ministry of Construction.
- Badge for Leadership in Socialist Competition of the 5 Year Plan. Awarded to in 1974. Comes with a paper back document bearing an original ink stamp on the Ministry of Construction, signed by the Minister.

Recent Nota Bene purchase: group of orders to Mr Natsag Munhuu.
Order of the Red Banner of Labor Valor (1945 Type, s/n 1586) - a replacement for the 1940 type Order of Industrialization Valor
Order of the Polar Star (1945 type, s/n 11059. Awarded on 27 March 1964)
Booklet (no picture unfortunately) also mentions a Medal for the 40th Anniversary of People's Revolution but this is not included in the group.

It's an 1829 Thaler of King Franz II, later Emperor Franz I, grandfather of Franz Josef, from the Vienna mint. Much less common.
Thanks Tom :jumping:

With my limited Latin skills I decipher the obverse to be Francis, Austrian Emperor. And I see the date 1829 on the reverse.
Maybe this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emperors_of_Austria?
Yep, got that far with my basic latin skills as well... but I'm completely unknowledgable when it comes to coins

It's the exact same size though and clearly there are similarities... maybe a fake, maybe something interesting - who knows? :jumping:

And this is what caught my eye at home...

So I bought a bunch of these thalers while in Yemen, but the I came home and one of them was "different" (I wasn't paying attention when buying it). Can anybody help me out here - what DID I buy?

When in doubt, always take pictures

Very nice, Bob. Many thanks!
As Owain has said, almost all post-unification, items on which scant information has been published. Much to digest here!!
To be honest, I had no clue what I was looking at (and nobody around to tell me either) so just did my version of the cliche of Japanese tourists and just too pictures of everything:)
Below is another interesting one... awarding ceremony (with the president and lots of kids)?
