Research request sent out. Liked the 2-6 weeks indication on Alexei's site
Sounds like this one will be an interesting puzzle to sort all out.

1970 Red Star to air force sneaky-stuff pilot? Noooooooooooooo way long service!
Only one way to find out
Just hope it doesn't take >1 year as it's taking for some of my other open research requests
Writing my mail to Alexei as we speak.

No recommendation for the "Motherland" and no full service record? Service record may not be available, as he may be still living?
Nope - this is all I have. I received the research with the purchase though so will go off to request - as far as possible - the rest from researcher. Will try Nota Bene this time around.

If you have the 1970 Red Star citation and ARC, post those in hopes the unit will be typed out in full. These abbreviations
me.
All that I have is posted, but I'll send the red star off for research as well (presumably long service though I assume). May take some time of course...

Thanks Rick - owe you a
Will do a rescan in 2 seperate (larger) pieces of the last scan. Hopefully makes reading easier.
Nothing beats the excitement of researched awards!

sounds like a part of the Special Purpose Command around Moscow... but possibly based in East Germany during 70's? Would make sense given the description Rick just gave.

And you don't WANT to know the sorts of prices being asked for A2s these days (and we're talking UB prices, not as if that makes much difference anymore)!
20 to 30 USD on eBay

sold to me as awarded to a pilot... now keeping my fingers crossed that he wasn't just flying airmail

Not entirely the right way to look at it of course but:
- 2000 SB's at 2K a piece
- 400 Soyombos at 8K a piece
factor 4-5 in volume and inverse also in price
doesn't sound that unreasonable... it's more the sudden rise in price that surprised me... 3-4K for a soyombo I always found cheap considering the significance and rarity of this award.
with SB's heading toward 2.5-3K... I think soyombos will be quickly heading over 10K
am just glad I got mine when I did as I sense that "Soviet collecting times" are coming
who knows of course how much the researchability now has to do with price increases... it's a whole new ball game now

First time I purchased a Soviet group, ok... a relatively small one but still excited about it.
Would appreciate some help with translation as English translation of research was not part of the deal.

Wow! Thanks Bob.
This site is full of obvious fake. And for some other, I am sure that a careful examination would reveal they are also fake. When you see that Title of Meritorious Pilot Badge sell for just 100$ more than a Navy Dagger (448$), you know something is really wrong.
You're right. I proposed a "send it for certification to Nota Bene and I'll pay the costs if it's real" solution to buying an item but that did not go down well... the seller issues his own certificate of authenticity though

this is the one I was referring to

Thanks Christian - seems like this dealer only sales "highend" fakes then

Interesting... the same SB's appear to "circulate": 1.246 twice in below list, 1.514 twice in below list, 644 twice in below list!

To add to this, I have 3700025 - also obtained from Mongolia and supposedly awarded to a Mongolian.
Research is pending but no luck (yet).
Besides, I have in my notes (don't recall from where) 3700025 - 3700416 as the known range for Mongolian awardees of red stars.
