While enjoying the weight and beauty of a newly arrived SB in my hand, I realized that these were not with Russian mintmarks... for some reason, that surprises me. Why would the Polar Stars have them yet these not?
Perhaps I shouldn't be surprised. Too many mysteries... with Mongolia being such a small country by population you'd hope that there'd be an easier path to getting answers.
Oh well, patience is a virtue right:)

I bought the SB on Alexei's website which was boxed. Will post a pic later this week. It's an interesting little box... not a typical box and I presume not an "official" one but a very nice little box indeed so I presume the owner cared a lot for his SB.
Edit: let me correct that statement... judging from the box, I suspect (male chauvinist speaking here) that it was awarded to a woman:). Now, if only we had research...

Intend to go back to Belarus this summer - travelling around the country extensively by car (assuming it doesn't get stolen along the way... in Ukraine the 1 night I had not parked my Audi in guarded parking there was an attempt to steal it within 2 hours of it standing alone).
I've been to Belarus before but the highlights warrent another visit:
- Brest fortress (absolutely magnificant to walk around and also the museum)
- Minsk (the Museum of Great Patriotic War is quite an experience)
...and then see some of the places I haven't seen before.
8 years ago I recall there was a market for medals in center of Minsk in the park - can anybody advise me on places to "shop" now?

Gentlemen,
In doing a little research on this question, I came across something that struck me as interesting. First, I think that in other threads we have established the maximum number of Red Banner awards at seven or eight. Yet I find the higher Lenin Order to have been awarded to at least one recipient (Marshal D. F. Ustinov) eleven times.
Where can I buy it?

A small surge in boxed awards recently incl. the - presumably - original cardboard boxes. On Pumbark's website you can see an unissued Order of Red Banner neatly tucked into it's cardboard box for instance.

Background of my question is twofold, curiosity and my interest in buying my first Lenin but preferably then a multiple Lenin group. Double Lenin awardee groups appear to be rare but available... I was curious to see how much more rare 3x, 4x etc groups would be.

So several hundreds of thousand OoL's have been awarded... but is there any reasonably accurate information on the number of "double awardees" (as well as triple, quadruple, etc.)?
Also, out of curiosity, why is the Order of Red Banner the only one with an indicator on it designating multiple awardings?

Some interesting points:
The medal "We Won" appears to have switched in the mid 20K zone (early 90's) into a long term commemorative medal.
The medal "40 years of MPR" has one of the most compact award date range seen in any award.

You don't see these very often (ever seen a "Meritorious Agricultural Ameliorator of the USSR"?) yet they are very nice.Here's my recently acquired People's Teacher of the USSR. 14.1gr, double LMD mintmark. No serial number on reverse unfortunately.
Unfortunately, because so little is seen / heard / known of these... it's not always easy to (once you find one) determine whether it's genuine or not.

I agree, getting more Russians here would be great (and fun!). Wouldn't mind getting some Russians with Mongolia collections here either (in Georgia, I actually met a fellow Mongolia collector in Tbilisi!).
I'd suggest that anybody who feels that Igor is asking too much:
- shouldn't buy from him
- and / or buy similar items and offer them for sale themselves to make some $$$
Igor is providing a service and nobody is forced to pay for it.
Besides, I personally find the quality of service very good (have purchased a few items from CR on occasions where I felt I would probably not be able to get a certain badly wanted part of my collection via other sources).
And finally, he's got a great website to drool over!

Not sure I find it "sad" that these are going home to Russia. I just wish I were more certain that such lovelies were going to research-loving collectors rather than to "New Rich" accumulators and shameless investors.
Perhaps one can be rich AND be a research-loving collector... not all "rich" people are "evil"
