Here pic of a huge document. Unfortunately not a number on the doc which could be used to tie it back to the badge.
Didn't fit on the scanner and I was lazy.
Now updated with interior.

Albania certainly didn't economize on their award documents!
Big, high quality, nice detail.

The state vaults have opened up bringing the price down for these BEAUTIFUL stars. Just in... and love the enamel.

Bob:
That is a stupendous medal you have there. Is it silver or is it nickel? I have been tracing that down for over a year now ever since I got those photos from the 1940's. That medal is on my very short list of decorations to get - I hope i can land one someday.
Cheers,
Eric
To be honest, how do I tell apart silver from nickel?
Assuming silver is heavier, I'd say it isn't silver. I am very impressed by the level of detail of this medal... certainly not your typical crude Albanian stuff.
I think what you are seeing in Albania is a bit like in some other places, the bank vaults opening up. Will post a gold partisan star (real gold that is, made in USSR!). I've been "hinted at" that soon some Laureat of Albania awards will be coming available as well...
Let us wait and see

SELLER 1: few months ago
SOLD ORDER OF THE RED BANNER OF MILITARY VALOR 2nd AWARD BOXED Battushig A 22.2, 1940-1945. Made of silver, gilt and enamels. S/n is 56, four rivets. Great near mint condition with light patina, flawless enamel. Comes with a presentation box, lightly worn. PRICE 3,950.00 [pix1] [pix2]
SELLER 2 (or 3): current price
Order of the Red Banner for Military Valor, 2nd award, 1940 type, #56, 1941-1945. Comes with an old issue box, possibly original to the award.
Silver gilt, enamels, numbered. 50.3 mm tall. The reverse shows Soviet mint mark. Exceptional quality, even if compared to Soviet decoration of the same period.
Extraordinary, near mint condition. Perfect enamel and completely intact gold plating. The rifle and sword are solidly affixed and are not bent as is often the case on the "first award" Orders of the Red Banner of 1940 type. Original silver screw plate is included.
Includes an issue box, standard for Mongolian orders, possibly original to the award or of slightly later vintage. Similar to Soviet order issue boxes, it is wrapped in red oilcloth, with padded lid having silk liner, and plywood insert wrapped in paper and silk for mounting the award.
This order was issued during WW2 as a consequent award to a person who had already been awarded with a single Combat Red Banner. This would have to be one of the highest ranking Mongolian and Soviet military officers. Most of the 1940-45 issues were later replaced with the 1945 model, which explains the extreme scarcity of this award. As an example, many early photos of Marshal Zhukov show him with two Mongolian Red Banners of the 1940 type, whereas his photos and portraits from mid 1950s and later invariably have him wearing the 1945 model.
Few of the 1940 Red Banner 4th award have come on the market over the last few years (most of them were probably unissued specimens), however this 2nd award is the only one we've ever handled. /See A. Battushig, "Mongolian Orders, Medals & Badges" p. 48, fig. A22.2/

Nice set of awards... any one of us would have gotten them as well if we would be married to the Dutch royal family. THe question is, what did Bernhard do to EARN these awards? Besides:
- driving around France in his jeep with body guards?
- collecting money under the table from Lockheed
- etc.
As you can guess, I am - although Dutch - not a monarchist.

That is an interesting screw on it. I would be surprised if it is the original one.

Vatjan + FJCP - please take a look at the Udarnik thread and hopefully you'll be able to add some more datapoints!

Looks like a true "fun guy" and that snappy state security leather coat just reinforces the image.
You say this photo fell out, loose? Sad, for it would be nice to see the document matches with.
Yep, and couldn't match it pic to any of the booklets (based on stamp) so either it was "loose" in some where or was not a correct pic to begin with...
I just wish we could research all these Mongolian awards sooner rather than later... just the thought (dreaming): detailed service records, photographs, etc.

Just a little pic I found deep in my mongolia collection. A small pic which dropped out of a packet of documents.
A mean looking Mongolian!

A number of these (not Saddam's presumably) are currently actually for sale on eBay

Type 1.2
Actually quite an interesting one... only now do I realise somebody converted a pinback into a screwback!

Updating my numbers database... now also trying to date Udarnik. Below number seems to come clear from one document in this thread.
Udarnik 2,203 31/10/1947
Vatjan / FJCP - could you have a very close look at the documents you posted and see if equally there is a number which probably (?) correlates to an Udarnik and below it a date.
FJCP - the document you showed, it belonged to the badge you posted right before or did you acquire them seperately? The document APPEARS to refer to Udarnik 366... and then a date. Am I correct?

A new type. Enameled ribbon, lightly silvered bronze, unnumbered. Believed to have been awarded only for Mongolian-Chinese border clashes in the 1960s.
This appears to be such a bronze one but numbered - or not?

I have one as well:)
Polar Star with 1562 serial number at 7 o clock
documented with date 08/07/1947
Here's scan

M 21.1 -- Type 1.1.3 (Screwback, Uigur, SN without prefix, ring part of the medal) -- Low = 12001/High = 16525
Checked my collection, high for me here is 16993 (medal in excellent "mint" condition also)

I'm doing a thorough review of my collection and came across a border guard group I had.
I thought I had posted it in the past already but can't find the thread so here we go again.
It may be helpful as it allows to date this border guard badge.
- E06 - the best border guard... not numbered but document dated 15-5-1990
- The soviet border badge... not numbered / undated (also on doc)
- A51 - medal 40 years victory of khalkhin gol dated on 29-8-1980
- A54 - 60 years armed forces... also unnumbered but doc dated on 14-7-1981
Hypothesis thus that either my friend transfered to border guards or was in their for a while and these border guard badges were not just distributed "freely" but required either tenure or special achievement.
Note, on the E06 the screw clearly indicated made in moscow. The screw is identical to the screw on the soviet border badge (Pobeda - Moscow) except that it is more brass like rather than nickel.

How can they tell that you have placed his item on your "watch list", does the seller get your ID when you place their item on your list?
The seller doesn't see your ID but does see a "counter" of how many people have put the item on their watchlist.

Hmm...that name rings a bell here...
Oops sorry, was that you?

Order of the Partisan Star
in Southern European & Balkan States
Posted · Edited by Bob
Keep in mind... the 100 USD starts are not the same (i.e. Goznak / solid gold) as the 1000 USD stars!
Also, the gold gold stars are obviously less easily available (though easily found after some good detective work... and then definately not for 1000 - 1600 EURO as some dealers are asking!
Yes, I believe that a load of items has left the state vault shall we say. Unrewarded but still nice items of course.
