    1. As I only showed so far the silver merit medal of the Leopoldorder, I now will complete the set.
Bronce merit medal of the Leopoldorder...

      Lippe-Schnalle-KVK-FEK-LOBrMed-VS.jpg

...and the golden merit medal of the Leopoldorden ( 84 awards only)

This one was awarded by Werner Eichhorst, decorator in Detmold.
Most probably he worked for the Prince in the castle, as this was his only Lippe award (surprisingly already the highest class).

    2. Houseorder 2nd class with oakleaves (made by Godet) and of course the refering case for it.

      Lippe-HO2mEL-VS+Etui.jpg

and an intersting variety, maybe a late one from Zimmermann, but the rear medaillon is from Godet.

By the way...there are many different cases for this class around  🙂

      Damn, this one I forgot...

...and finally the only brast-star I have, unfortunately without any case.

Lippe-Detmold star of the grandcross, awarded 11 times.
This one was made again by Godet and is marked with JG&S on the needle.

At this point I will stop posting again, before showing some nice Lippe groups...

      Exceptional !

Who are the recipients of these 3 exceptions ?

Prince Leopold IV. of Lippe-Detmold himself

Georg Freiherr von Eppstein, personal friend of Prince Leopold IV. and his adjudant
Prince Rupprecht of Bavaria (Rupprecht got a double set, pinback cross and war merit cross in silver gilden, this set was sold some years ago and I unfortunately missed it).

      My cross is Eppstein´s cross.

...and once more, another ultra rare bird....awarded only three times!!!

It´s the houseorder 3rd class Lippe-Detmold with swords at the ring.

I even have a 2nd case for the same order, which differs a lot....but there will be no chance to ever find a 2nd piece.

...upps, again a cased nice little fellow 🙂
Houseorder 2nd class, first version with LA, previously awarded as the "old 1st class".

    4.

Now let´s go to a another highlight...house order 4th class with swords at the ring!

Officially this class was never awarded and only 5 pieces were ever produced.

As the Prince ran out of pieces of the "normal" 4th class with swords div. A in summer 1918,
Friedrich Metze, Direktor Artilleriewerkstatt Lippstadt", who owned this medalbar, got instead this
special 4th class....I haven´t seen so far a 2nd piece of this class.

Holy cow, now there's no point in posting anything else in this thread.

No....please go ahead in posting Lippe stuff...there is so much more, I don´t have in my collection and I still keep hunting for!

Let´s continue with some cased houseorders Lippe-Detmold....WARNING, keep an eye on your bloodpressure 😁

Lippe-Detmold Golden merit cross (official version in gold, hollow made)

      Lippe-goldenes-VK-VVS.jpg

another golden merit cross, variety in silver gilden, also hollow produced, most likely made by Zimmermann (late piece).
I´m not sure, if it was ever awarded, as the official pieces were all made in gold.

      Lippe-GVK-Etui_svg-hohl-VS.jpg

Damn....and another variety of the golden merit cross 😁
This one is also hollow and silver gilden, but the type of gilding differs from the previous one!

      Lippe-GVK-Etui-Zimmermann-VS.jpg

      Lippe-GVK-svg_hohl-Zimmermann-VS.jpg

As some 4th classes of the houseorder were shown previously, I skip the "usual" ones and I only show this very rare litte bird.

This one is purely made by Godet (marked with JG&S) and very rare to find. The back differs from the Büsch and Zimmermann made pieces and the "hybrid" awards, which were refreshed and re-awarded after returning.

I only know so far one identical 4th class from Godet.

    6. Before moving to any Lippe medalbars, I will continue to show you some cased roses, there are still some more to show to you 😎

Ultra rare Lippe-Detmold Leopoldorder with the crown, pinback-cross, 1st model, only awarded 6 times (!) between 1909-1910.

      Lippe-LOmKr-1-Modell-VS.jpg

      Lippe-LOmKr-Etui.jpg

Oh, this one I forgot to show earlier.

The first war merit crosses were awarded in a small red couvert instead of the paper-packet.
These couverts are very rare and only produced until the beginning of 1915!

      KVK-Kurvert.jpg

This is one of my favorite pieces in my collection, only three pieces were produced (I can proof this with the copy of Prince Leopold IV.´s written order)
Lippe-Detmold war honour cross for heroic deeds in silver gilden (!), marked with 800.

      Lippe-Heldentat-Kreuz-Punze_800.jpg

In order to avoid merging everything together in one post, I will start with the cased Lippe-Detmold houseorder later seperately.

    7. How about cased roses? Here are some....

Lippe-Detmold life-saving medal 3rd type incl. case (very rare, as there were in total only 20 awards!)

      Lippe-RM-2_Mod-Set_m_Etui-VS-klein.jpg

Lippe-Detmold Women merit medal incl. case ( as rare as the lifesaving medal )

      and the silver merit medal...

Cased "Einzugsmedaille des Grafregenten Ernst zur Lippe 1897" (The case is also quite rare)

    8. Nice idea to reactivate this topic....as I´m only collecting Lippe-Detmold 😎

      Let´s start with some packets:

Lippe-Detmold war merit cross / Kriegsverdienstkreuz (already shown)

      KVK-Tuete+Papier.jpg

Lippe-Detmold war honour medal / Kriegsehrenmedaille

      Lippe-KEM-Set-VS.jpg

and Lippe-Detmold military merit medal / Militärverdienstmedaille

      Lippe-MVMmX-Set-VS.jpg

...and now something very rare, as it was never founded or awarded.
Only a few trial pieces were delivered.

    9. Hi Dave,

thanks a lot. Friedrich Dietz von Bayer indeed had another son, but it was a stillborn nameless child in 1923.

I already checked all candidates, who got both 4th classes from Detmold and Schaumburg, without any success.

The owner must be born before 1870 (NC medal for 1870/71) and the Schaumburg award might be an early one (white background of the rose).
But this doesn´t really help in this case.

    10. Another Lippe-group...not yet identified, the Lippische Rose for art and science 3rd class was probably after 1918 awarded.

      Lippe-2er-Spange-LH4a-KEM+LRos2mEL-VS.jpg

And again a small chain from Lippe (Detmold and Schaumburg!) of a NC.
The name I got was "Dietz von Bayer", but I couldn´t find him in the rolls so far.

      Lippe-Minikette-LDH4-SLH4-Cent-KDM70_NK-LWDA-VS web.jpg

This chain is quite unique, as the Lippe-Detmold Leopoldorden 3rd class was awarded only 16 times.

The owner was Conrad Trauthan, Gewerbeaufseher (industry-inspector) in Bielefeld...

    11. Hello gents,

as I didn´t show anything for a long time, I will present a small group, I got last year and which I haven´t shown yet.
Actually it seems that there is not much Lippe-Detmold around in the market...

Fritz (Friedrich) Carl Emil Josef von und zu Gilsa

born 23rd June 1848 in Wetzlar

as the son of Generalmajor a.D. Friedrich Wilhelm von und zu Gilsa

died 19th July 1884 near Altbreisach accidently by falling from a railwaybridge (during topographical works).

      Military career:

Musketier in the IR No.55 on 6th September 1867

      Sekondelieutnant on 9th February 1869

      Adjudant 1st Bat. IR 55 17th April 1872

      Premierlieutnant 17th October 1876

      Kriegsakademie 1st October 1880 - July 1883

detailed to "Grossen Generalstab" since 1st May 1884

      Awards:

Prussia Iron cross 2nd class 1870 on 19th January 1873

      Lippe-Detmold house-order 3rd class (old type) on 15th October 1878

      Hope you like it...

    12. Hello gents,

this little medalbar came naked without medals and crosses.

Lukily I had the missing awards in my collection, so it is "redressed" now again.

      On the bar you find:

      -Lippe-Detmold war merit cross

      - Hindenburg-cross

      - Lippe-Detmold bronze merit medal Leopold-order ( 335 awards in total )

Here are my assumptions, which probably made an identification possible:

The ribbonbar of the war merit cross is definitely a very early one, used until 1915.

The red stripe is pink-coloured and the yellow stripe is more orange than yellow.

The combination is quite unique as he first served as soldier, awarding the war merit cross

but surprisingly no iron cross (the Hindenburg-cross is the 2nd evidence for his military career).

Likely, that the owner left the army during war and should be an older person, as there is also no long-service medal.

The merit medals of the Leopold-order were usually given to private persons, such as teachers, servants

and comparable "lower class" positioned persons in the society.

On top I assumed that the award of the merit medal must be a late one, as no other awards from Lippe-Detmold

are on the medalbar. Therefore I added the last model of the Bronze medal to the bar, produced by C.F. Zimmermann.

Now I checked all 335 receipts for the Bronze medal and I only found one candidate, who had the war merit cross

(without iron cross!) and a late award of the Bronze medal. In addition he was in 1914 already 45 years old (!!!).

Simon Bültemeier (born 25th September 1869 in Kalldorf, Lippe-Detmold)

got the Bronze medal on 11th November 1918 (!) as No. 312 of the list.

His profession was "Waldarbeiter" (working in the forest) and he listed except the war merit cross no other award.

For me Simon Bültemeier is most likely the former owner of this small bar 🙂

      Best regards

    13. On 11th November 1918 Kurt Wittje listed the following other awards in his receipt for the LDH4bX:

      IC 1st class

      IC 2nd class

Lippe-Detmold war merit cross for heroic deeds

      Lippe-Detmold war merit cross

      Hamburg hanseatic cross

At his medal bar I see:

      IC 2nd Class

Lippe-Detmold house order 4th class Type B with swords

      Lippe-Detmold war merit cross

      Hamburg hanseatic cross

      Kyffhäuser medal

      Hungary war memorial medal

And at his breast I see:

      IC 1st class

Lippe-Detmold war merit cross for heroic deeds

      wound badge in black

      and the mentioned Hamburg Feldehrenzeichen...

    14. Hello gents,

this nice little lot recently found its way in my collection:

Award document for the iron cross 2nd class 1870 from 19th January 1873

Award document for the common house order 3rd class Lippe-Detmold & Schaumburg-Lippe from 15th October 1878

Lippe-Detmold House order 3rd class (common award of Detmold & Schaumburg with chiffre LA)

The cross and order were awarded by

Fritz Karl Emil Josef von und zu Gilsa

born 23th June 1848 in Wetzlar

killed in an accident on 19th July 1884 near Altbreisach (falling from a railway bridge)

Fritz von und zu Gilsa military career:

      - Musketier 6th September 1867 in the infantery-regiment No. 55

      - Sekondelieutnant 9th June 1869 in the infantery-regiment No. 55

      - Premierlieutnant 17th October 1876

      - since 1st October 1880 sent to war academy

      - since 1st May 1884 sent to “Großer Generalstab” in Berlin

Most likely those two awards were the only ones of Fritz von und zu Gilsa, due to his fatal accident in 1884.

      Comments are always welcome.

      Best regards

    15. Nice little fellow and indeed quite rare (long time ago another collector and me were writing an article about the
      Militairverdienstmedaille Lippe-Detmold).

Attached you find a suitable award document for such a medal without swords (awarded by the music-director of the infantery-regiment No. 55 Vizefeldwebel Gustav Wöhe) and the statues of this medal.
