@ ulsterman
Dave Danner said in his article (the link ist given before) that this might be the "minaret of Maiwand" in kabul, so in my oppinion it's not a "victory tower".
@ dave
Hope the detailed pictures help a little bit to give some more information about this medal...

And, at least, the bottom of the front:

@ Ulsterman,
yes, indeed it look like the picture of a tower; for more info look at ed's link given before: For the Medal of Ghazi Muhammad Ayub Khan see: http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=2350 and http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=12313&st=45
@ Ed,
the medal seems to get very interesting, so I will put some better and detailed pictures (especially about the small arabic "letters" shown at the front below the main)?here?tomorrow?afternoon!

Back again for some more information, sorry
I was really surprised to see how accurate the ribbon of the medal of the left side was made - not folded an a hole, no, there was a "system" of an medal bar, an hook and a "holder" for the ribbon?all?of them inside, so it is really on high level (probably for on officer???)! Never see such an construct before during my long period of collecting medals, also from the "eastside"...

Ed,
you are great - your article about the afghan medals was a phantastic?help?for?these?medals?to?find?out,?and?I?hope?you?can?help?me?with?th
e?medal?I?ask?for...
What is the correct ribbon for the medal in the right side? Due to the poor conditions?(sorry, but a flash was not the best idea, so I made the pictures without) the colors are not really shown, so the right one has an green ribbon, and the ribbon of the medal left was "traditional" black-red-green.
Thanks again - hope you find some more information!

p.s.: sorry for the english grammar mistakes I made, but it's not my home language...

Hi,
I've got these afghan medals from an comrade coming home from service in afghanistan, and due to the research here I can identify three of them: top, right and bottom, but
- I'm not shure about the ribbon of the medal right
and
_ I cannot identify the medal on the left side.
Could someone here help me to get some details about these medal?
Thanks a lot for your help!

Hi, Rick!
It is the period between 1908 and 1916, in which this medal was given. before it was a silver one (except a few 1908 silver gold-plated), later the medal was made in zinc.
Thanks for your help!

Hi,
At first I'm not shure about this doc because I expect an cross with the white ribbon, but after reading this post:
according to all ?the information given above this is a document for an ek given for merit in the field as?an? black ribonned cross for services in the field given esp. in occupied territory, isn't it?
Or not?

Thanks again, paul!
I though taht the lock could be a special sign because I've seen the same "form" and a text inside on the rearside of a medal...

According to my last post about the japanese medal shown there I would like to ask you about the lock of the case: is the form of the lock a symbol, too? And if yes, what it means or for what it stand for?
Thanks for your help!

Hi,
I would show you these rare wonderful landwehr-spange 2nd class which I've got today - made for the "normal" bar to wear with other awards and decorations. Hope you like it, too!

I've seen a couple instances of awarding of Jasorat. The most common was what appears to have been a mass awarding of the medal to GPW/WWII veterans here in Uzbekistan (similar to the Soviet issuance of the '85 version of the OPW). I'm not sure if this "anniversary" version was serial-numbered. I have one at home, so I'll look when I get a chance (I think I also have the doc).
Jasorat is also given for acts of bravery. I personally know one former Uzbek serviceman who received Jasorat for counter-terrorism actions a few years ago. Later I'll see if I can get a copy of his citation if anyone is curious.
On another note (and I'm sure you all know), the 50th Anniversary of Victory in the GPW was issued with national docs from each CIS country. Uzbekistan's version has a green cover and facsimile signature of the "beloved" President.
...Brian
Thanks a lot for this info - it would be great if you can post the doc's, too. It is a strange object to collect medals/orders of some former sowjet-republics...

Additional a comparison of front and rear of it, and the measurements.

Hi Rick - it is amazing also for me!
The rearside look normal, means flat like the unofficial bars of the landwehr, 2nd class.
It seems to be (in german: Bronze versilbert) is this correct: brass?silvered?(?).
What do YOU think about it?

also small and nice...

Hi,
I would like to show you one of the rarer Landwehr-Dienstauszeichnungen, here from the Grand Dutchy of Baden. It's the 2nd class made from gilded bronce with black and red enamel. Does anyone of you have another one of it to compare or can give me some details about?
Hope you like it, too!
