Hi Chris Thanks for all your words. No worries about the cap. I didn't win it anyways :-) I'm more interested in collecting general awards that I find attractive and try to stay in that area for a while (one of the first things reccommended to me by most of the older collectors) I'm not too worried about research and availability. If I was, I would of never gotten my thailand collection. Trust me - getting that stuff is even worse than egypt ODM!!!! haha. yea I saw all the buy now offers on ebay. as I mentioned in my first post, I'm waiting for a release of a ODM book which will cover egypt with expected prices and what not. should be in the next month or so. So until then, I'll just do my market research through liverpool, medaille and ebay so when I'm ready to start, I know what to aim for. and thanks. I have read most thread on here already to start off my research before this thread. So just finalising details before I start this area of collecting. I just find egypt has more of the beautiful medals compared to the other arab states and with the top classes weighing in around $1K, it's still in the budget :-)

Hi Lorenzo, thankyou for your suggestions and comments. Yeah the hat in your photo is very nice ;-) bet its expensive! I'll have a look at the syrian ODM and see how I go. I love the look of the egyptian ODM, but given my current financial situation, I might have to wait a while.

Hi everyone, With my order of the crown collection for thailand almost finished and most other thai awards being out of my price range (or I can't simply find them...), I'm looking at egyptian ODM I'm currently holding off buying medals until my house finance is approved and am saving up for a medal book which will get releases soon with egypt medals and their average prices. So I wanted to ask is this a worth while section to collect? From what I have seen so far over the net that they are more widely stocked than thai awards but can get quite expensive even for the lower class medals. Are they fairly easy to get without resorting to ebay all the time? (my whole thai collection was ebay gotten). I have seen a few on medaille and liverpool but their prices are painful to look at. and lastly, can you give some book recommendations (yes, yes - I read the egypt thread here with the books listed by a forum goer - but I can't find them) that may help me in the mean time keep away from fakes and avoid paying too much for the awards. anyways - I thought I would start small with this: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=310208306219 not sure if it's a fake - but its cheap and would make a nice centre piece to put the medals around as I get them. biggest regret was paying over $125 for an 8th class order of the rising sun..... this is what happens when you don't research no regrest for selling yet. I will be holding onto that 8th class for years so the bugger may repay me one day.

gah... I'm sorry chris I really do suck at this. well I'm off to sleep. If the sale is still there in the morning I will buy it and post here for everyone to see if its repro...well its not an expensive mistake and I bet the police collectors on this forum will benefit from the information that my mistake will bring. thanks once again for your patience with a new collector.

yup I did. no good. ah sorry about the bung link :-( my bad :-( I'm being a bit selfish here. newbie collector syndrome if you will. just don't want to miss the chance while doing my research thats all I have asked the dealer for the second time for a photo of mint marks. if I get nothing, link to the sale shall go up :-D oh - I found a few others on ebay with the backs photogrpahed with mint details :-) fronts look identical to my sale. so wait and see for those photos otherwise I'm assuming fakes here are two auctions showing what I will be getting. So if these are fakes, most liekly the sale I'm going for is fake too. hi all please forgive me if this is in the wrong area. please feel free to move if it is. I found a sale of 5 peru police merit medals. The sale includes all grades and even the grand cross!!!! however. a price of 120 US immediately makes me worry. sorry I can't post photos and I'm a bit worried that if I post the link, I'll get sniped and loose this chance forever....assuming the medals are good of course. #edit# found a pict of one of them... photo so do you guys think the medals would be good? or downright fake? they look identical to the posted photo, right down to the box design, the bars and minis. Very convincing!!!!

sorry to bump a old thread. but thanks for the photos everyone. I have a 8th class in my room at the moment with a seventh in the mail. trying constantly for a sixth grade from ebay...but kinda worried about fakes.
