    1. Hi all,

Here are some U.S. Navy training aids. First off is a little piece for training in Morse Code for the blinkers.

      [attachmentid=56597]

You hold it between your thumb at the bottom and your other fingers at the top. When you squeeze it slightly the bars in the circle go white to simulate a blinking morse lamp.

    2. Hi all,

Not sure what else to call this. A desk piece... souvenir from being a guest of the Secretary of the Navy. Just couldn't resist this one when I saw it. I love the navy... specifically carriers which is where I wanted to spend my career. And believe me, the scans do not do this one justice. It looks a bit dusty but it's the way the scan kept coming out. I'm assuming due to odd reflections as this entire piece is encased in lucite.

Does anyone have similar pieces they'd be willing to share?

      Dan

    3. Hi Eduardo,

Hope it's okay to add a couple here... my sole contributions at this stage. One I believe is an older piece which I'm assuming is original to the period. It was a gift from my French teacher who collected stamps and postcards from her travels around the world.

      [attachmentid=56589]

The second one is a modern reprint. A gift from my best friend who collects postcards. I love the uniforms and all the gongs on this one.

I love the ones you've posted :jumping::jumping: and hope to acquire more myself at some point. I can definitely see where they'd be very addictive.

    4. Hi all,

Here's some scans of the Waffenbruderschaft medal. Any imperfections are not on the medal but due to the scan. I keep forgetting to bring down the cleaner for the glass on the scanner. The medal though is stone cold mint! :jumping::jumping:

    5. Dan,

Sounds like a plan. I'll do my best to help here by comparing them with my own. One thing to look for on the boards is that repros often have a looser twist to the cords than the real thing. Problem here is that you need a guaranteed good pair to hold in your hands to compare.

Went to my first Hungarian Militaria Show today. Very interesting. Small venue but packed with vendors and buyers. Came home with a nice early (in silver) second class Waffenbruderschaft medal. Also bought all three classes of the Hungarian Waffenbruderschaft medal. I've been looking for the Hungarian ones for some time.

      Cheers,

      Gordon

      Hi Gordon,

Okay, got these a couple of days ago but been up to my ears and this is my first chance to sit down and do any scans.

Hope these show what you need to see but if you have more specific requests please let me know and I'll do all I can to provide any additional views that are needed.

      Anyhow without further ado...

    6. Hi Charles,

Very nice pieces, one and all. And I do love that blue case!:love::jumping::jumping:

On the measurement on my medal... I'll have to do that in a bit. Been one of those mornings so far... really hopping. Do you need measurements on the case too? Let me know and I'll be happy to provide.

Also can it be in English measurements? I "may" have a metric rule but not sure.

      Thanks,

      Dan

    7. Dan,

Not that I want to through cold water on your enthusiasm, but both the shoulderboards and the collar tabs have been heavily repro'd so be cautious in what you buy.

      Regards,

      Gordon

      Hi Gordon,

I guess the best I can do is post good scans of them, front, back, etc., when I receive them (hopefully today or tomorrow... knock on wood) and we can go from there. Keeping my fingers crossed.

      Thanks,

      Dan

    8. Nice Swallowsnest. I would also like to add a complete musicians tunic to my collection but they are very rare. I see them from time time advertised as being musians tunics but this usually not correct. They are most often just someones idea of what the real thing should look like. The nests you say look like Grenzer may be that. Hard to tell from the colour on the scan. VOPO would or Bereitschaft would be a lighter green I think. Here is the photo of a Miners musicians tunic which was sold a day ago.

      Cheers,

      Gordon

      Hi Gordon,

Many thanks! Very nice tunic! I've seen the miners uniforms and such on Ebay from time to time but never gone for one. Probably should at some point. But really like that.

      Many thanks,

      Dan

    9. Dan,

The position of the star on your boards is ok. For some reason the VOPO generals put the single star in the centre of the baords while the NVA generalmajor officers always had there star at the outer edge of the shoulderboard. All my VOPO generalmajor uniforms have the star in the centre including the shirt sleeve order. Here is a phot of the boards on one of my tunics.

      Regards,

      Gordon

      Hi Paul,

Haven't received yet but will check when they come in.

      Dan

      Hi Gordon,

Many thanks for posting that pic and passing along the info on these. Sets my mind at ease. Can't wait for them to arrive... hoping by Saturday (knock on wood!). Now looks like I'll need to get a set of the collar tabs as well.:love::jumping::jumping:

      Thanks!

    10. Hallo e-militaria

On the Forum we have a:

Gentleman's Military Interest Club > Collections & Guest Valuations > Guests Valuation & Identification Forum section

I think your posts would be more appropriate there.

What exactly is a "Reichsnahrstand" ?? this looks like a common tinnie or commemorative badge made in zink.

      Kevin in Deva

      Hi Kevin,

The Reich Food Estate (Reichsnahrstand - RNS) was established by Richard Darre after he was appointed Minister of Agriculture in June of 1933. It was formed to regulate agriculture, set prices, production quotas, quality of farm products. Basically it was similar to a Department of Agriculture.

I've seen some non-portable awards for this organization in the past... I believe one was on bee keeping.

      Hope this helps,

      Dan

    11. Hi all,

Just wondered... how hard are these to come by? They're nice stamps and that's yet another hobby I've been in for ages but I'm still far from knowing all there is to know.

For all I know I may have some of these in my collection... I've had so many for so long having bought out some bulk groupings in the past. I know I have a bunch of Soviet stamps but this is inspiring me to check for some of these.

      Thanks,

      Dan

    12. You think this is bad, Dan, try Mongolian . . . :speechless1::unsure::jumping:

      Hi Ed,

Believe you me, I'm still willing... but either my budget has to get bigger or prices have to get lower. :( I'm considering entering the lotto with the Mongolian Polar Star but I would fall down on the spot if lightning were to strike twice! :cheeky::lol:

But hopefully one way or the other I'll be able to join in on the fun at some point. And the ones I actually like the best are the Order of Combat Valor and the Order of the Red Banner of Labor.

      Dan

    13. Doc- yes - welcome to the darker side of Hungary...you cant leave...

      Hauptman -

here are Kiss Lajos's ribbon bars - they are not all correct!

Top one - Resoration, Bronze Merit Medal for Serivce to the Nation, 25 year, 10 year, 20 year, Meritorious Service Medal (oops!)

Second - Restoration, 20 year, 15 year, 10 year (correct pattern)

Third - Restoration, Bronze Merit Medal for Serivce to the Nation, 20 year, 15 year, 10 year. (correct pattern)

Very nice ribbon bars! Would love to get some like those as well as some of the cloth variety with devices if they ever pop up at a good price. :jumping::jumping:

And Doc... Charles kind of said what I was tempted to say... "Welcome to the Dark Side." And no... you can't leave. It's kinda like being in the mob. Once you're in... you're in for life. :P:cheeky::lol::beer:

      Dan

    14. Dan,

Its a large rangefinder, probably used for heavy-calibre Flak.

      David

      Hi David,

Wow, really? That things got to be huge! Would certainly take up a ton of room in a collection, that's for sure. I'll have to check my U.S. Army reference on German forces and see if I can find it as they have a ton of that kind of stuff in there.

If I find it I'll post a pic.

      Thanks!

      Dan

    15. I think that the ribbons are:

War Merit Cross without swords, 2nd class(because of the newly presented EK2).

      Austrian Annexation Medal

      V/r

      Paul

      Hi Paul,

Sounds about what I was thinking... but I didn't say as I didn't want to influence what anyone else might say.

Hey, did you manage to get those Luftwaffe videos working? They're really great and I think you'll enjoy them immensely so really hoping you got them working okay.

      Thanks,

      Dan

    16. The most rare aspect of the lot is the Munkas-Paraszt Hatalomert Emlekerem. It has the carrying document with it! Because Lajos stayed faithful to the Soviet cause in 1956 his oldest child was given a free ride to the University of their choice - even if the childs scores in school would normaly not warrant such admission. Also there was so much more - it became a medal that opened up so many doors to the Party. Even for a low NCO.

      Hi Charles,

Another beauty! I'm also getting hooked on this one being one of favorites! :jumping::jumping:

      Dan
