    1. Hi Pat,

Great looking helmet! Probably an early battlefield pickup or souvenir by the look of it. I think the guys learned fairly fast that a dirty or rusty look on a helmet helped to give them a bit of camo and keep them from being too obvious. Definitely don't want to stand out as a target when everyone is shooting in your general direction! :cheeky::beer:

I've got a couple of these... also without liner, etc. Will have to do up some pics and post at some point.

Thanks for sharing... great find!

    2. Hi Pat,

"Very" nice piece there... good find! Love the woodwork. Someone put alot of effort into that one. I've got a wood plate with the different German state seals on it but it pales in comparison to this. And of course mine was done post war as a souvenir type item.

Wish I could find good stuff like that these days. Besides being good period pieces they're also great as added decor with any related collection in a den or display area. :jumping::jumping:

    3. The blank reverse...

      Hi Pat,

Some funny things about the back here that show up in the pic. Not funny bad... just funny unusual. If you look just above the center slot it looks as if part of a swastika was scratched there... perhaps all of it at one time and just scratched out or worn down on some combination over time.

To the left and slightly below the top hole is what looks very much like a black stahlhelm. If you then look just to the right of the hole at the same level as the stahlhelm you'll see where it looks like someone scratched or engraved the letter A as in the bloodgroup on the front of the tag.

Also, if you look just above the little stahlhelm you'll see what looks like another much smaller swastika. Although I only found that when I saved the pic over and blew it up on my laptop.

Might be just the kinds of things some SS member might have "doodled" on some of his equipment where it would likely not be seen... and since they were all nazi symbols I doubt anyone would have said a word.

      Just a thought.

    4. Hi Dan

      You are welcome ;)

I have not seen those before, are they part of the tab or are they holding the button in place?

      Hi Laurence,

Actually, now that I think of it... a little out of column a and a little out of column b. :P Again even the buttons are unusual as it seems like most I've seen have either been specific to an organization or the pebbled type in use by the military.

And again these were two reasons I'd always thought that they were post war. The other pair could have gone either way as it was more in line with those I'd always seen.

I just wish both were in better shape but again the damage was done long before I got ahold of them.

    5. Yuri shows both the Medal "Jasorat" and the Medal "Sukhrat", but with little information.

      http://www.netdialogue.com/yy/Asia/Uzbekis...at/Shukhrat.htm

My notes show the "Sukhrat" as a labor award, but end there :(

We need to know much more (though Yuri does have a nice list of awards, Megan ignores Uzbekistan entirely!!).

      Hi Ed,

Many thanks for the info. Well, looks like I've done stepped into fairly unknown territory. They're beautiful pieces and I do hope more information will come to light down the road.

I also had found the Sukhrat was a labor award but could not find anything much to speak of about the Shukhrat.

      Thanks,

    6. The litzen are for an Infantry EM/NCO waffenrock, and the last one is like you called it and if the waffenfarbe is orange as it shows on my monitor it's for Feldgendarmerie or Recruiting.

      Hi Laurence,

Many thanks for all the info you passed along on these. Wanted to reply to you earlier but got caught up with work. But I deeply appreciate your help on these. Have had them forever and a day and never realized they were WWII period.

I've never seen one with those metal "clips" underneath. Is that something unusual or what? I've never even seen them referred to in references.

      Many thanks,

    7. Dan - Interesting thread. I often get these Bundeswehr shoulderboards when I buy East German boards. I've got bags of them I don't know what to do with since very few people appear to be collecting them. Most all of mine are sown together and are in unused condition without rank pips or devices. They frequently show up on E-bay, sometimes with claims that they are WWII vintage. I have an old Bundeswehr guide somewhere that tells what the branch colors are, I'll have to dig it out. Kevin

      Hi Devin,

Hey my friend... all donations gleefully accepted! :P:beer:

Seriously though, I have a few refs that list them... was just far too bleary eyed last night to dig them out and check. I "think" at least one of the refs I have shows the branch colors... or at least some of them. But if you find yours if nothing else we can cross check.

The "Luft" ones I took off of what I was told is a Luftwaffe greatcoat I got for all of $5 ages ago. It fits and it's very warm so I have used it for years as a neat winter coat.

I've been tempted to collect both the West and East German boards/tabs but so far it's just been a few pieces here and there... as you say generally as throw ins and such. There was a whole box I'd have loved to get if I could have worked it out as a bulk deal with the fellow who runs Viking Militaria down in Colorado when I was there several years ago. He was very indifferent to all the W & E German insignia, etc. at that time. Could have probably gotten the whole box (big one too! ) for a song and then dug to my hearts content later. I love to do that. Treasure hunt!

I had to pass up a big bag of Stasi boards and such once... had nearly all if not all the levels from enlisted up through officer save General of course... if I remember correctly. And was not too much... but other things took precedence and the budget didn't permit me to get it all. ;)

      Mucho thanks!

    8. Hi all,

I got these ages ago in a little junk shop down in Palm Harbor Florida. Was part of a big group of boards and tabs and such. I've always assumed these were Fire Police, probably post war West German. But any additional info or even confirmation of this would be most appreciated.

They're not in super shape but are as I got them way back when.

These first ones seemed unusual to me in the type of button they have as well as the clip underneath on each. I've never seen this type before or since.
