This Order of the Red Banner was one of the items stolen from a Minnesota collector around Thanksgiving. Here's the thread going into more detail:
http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=47059&st=0
This ORB was, it seems, the only Soviet Order. Sadly the owner did not record the serial number. He could only provide this photo:
I know it's not much to go on without the SN... but notice what looks like stains on the ribbon especially in the lower areas which form specific patterns that could be matched.
Anyhow, keep an eye out and if anyone tries to offer you what looks like this ORB you may want to contact law enforcement with the details. Explain that it may be connected to the robbery in question (see the above thread) and with luck we can run these low life's down, see they're punished for their crime and hopefully see the recovery of some or all of this collection.
Many thanks!

Scans of documents are so bad! How did you red them?
My friend who gave it all to me got them translated... I don't know by who.
Sorry.

When my regular, modern gloves give up the ghost and my hands are freezing... I pull these out.
They have never failed me! Note, that's a bit of water on the outsides from snow as I was just out clearing the walks and raking ice off the roof. Warm and toasty in my rabbit fur lined mittens!
Sadly no markings that I can find but in just as good and useable a condition as when they were originally made.
Anybody happen to know anything more about them?

I agree with Sascha, not an 1870-era bar, but something altered in the distant past. I have seen one other EK2 drilled this way, and I think it is real, although a strange one with the crooked core.
That was the one thing that stood out to me as well when I saw it. Never seen an EK with the core like that. It mostly seems to be the date, hence my wondering if perhaps it is a known variation. Definitely interesting!

No thoughts at all?
Looks good to Nick and I... again just super mint condition... but would love some confirmations one way or the other if anyone cares to comment.
Thanks!

Mervyn, an awesome piece! Again you come up with the most interesting goodies! You've definitely got a green thumb for militaria!
Is it made of wood or metal? A great job either way but if in metal that's pretty fantastic work for a teen... even if in wood I'd say the same. He really put some time, effort and TLC into making this. A fantastic find! Congrats!!!!

Hi,
am a world away from my roll...
can anyone tell me how many Burg. W.J. Viljoen there are?
Any Cape Rebels?
Thanks
Chris
Hi Chris. Don't know if this helps... I pulled it up on Ancestry.com and have sent over the results on one to your email.
Name:J W ViljoenCampaign or Service:South Africa - Second Boer WarService Date:1899-1902Service Location:South AfricaRegiment or Unit Name:National ScoutsRegimental Number:881
It was the closest match although there are a couple of other Viljoen's who might be possibles. Actually a bunch of them on there but these will be the closest. Hoping it helps. Will pop the other two over to your email in just a sec and hoping you're able to access it where you are.

I'll say this... if the 1870 wasn't originally on there, is a good one, and they drilled it in order to stitch it down on this bar... then whoever did it should be shot out of a very large caliber cannon!

Hi Kev,
Would love to see some pics if possible. both sides in scabbard, then both sides of the dagger itself out of the scabbard to show the blade plus any other details you think should be done in closeup.
Many thanks!

No problem. It's a beautiful bar nonetheless.
Thanks for trying!

Rick... I love it!
First I've seen! Can you post a pic of the reverse? Always a good idea when posting ribbon bars... and well... just about anything.
Great find! Congrats!

Stumbled on this one and thought it might be of interest. Looks like an early auction in England.![jumping.gif](http://gmic.co.uk/public/style_emoticons/default/jumping.gif)
