    1. Thank you Sergey. cheers.gif Hoping some more folks will add any they might have over time. I'd actually love to add an Imperial example both of the rifle and the revolver at some point. I know where one of the rifles is for a decent price... just have to wait till I can afford it.beer.gif

Plus I still need to obtain a cleaning rod for my revolver set... along with some ammo at some point as I've never fired it and would love to sometime.

    2. My next door neighbor held a garage/moving sale today (she's moved to the retirement apartments two blocks over) and amongst other things (non-militaria) I picked this up for $1. Couldn't pass it up. Have always wanted one and at that price I figured what they hey.jumping.gifjumping.gif

Here's some info on the history of these cans:

    3. Well, got motived to look through a stamp collection my father gave me before he passed away. It's a whole briefcase full that he got at some point along the way. Was hoping perhaps there were some of these type stamps in there. Sadly just more of the Hitler heads, a feldpost one with eagle/swaz, and a few with a bigger swaz. Just have to start keeping my eyes out and about to see if I can locate some of the type you have. Lots of action on those. Good news is I did find a ton of full and partial sets of Soviet stamp series so was quite happy about that!jumping.gifjumping.gif

    4. Actual postage stamps. That's a terrific set too. There are several more nice ones out there. Shame is that the only ones you tend to see the vast majority of the time, at least in my experience are the Hitler head ones. I'd eventually love a set like this plus the others that are out there.

      Many thanks for sharing these!beer.gif

    5. My friend... you come up with some of the neatest stuff!jumping.gifjumping.gif I LOVE these!love.gif And yes, they do appear to be for hunting which knowing the DDR along with the rest of the Warsaw Pact they had some official group to hold control over hunters, sportsmen, etc. Wish I had more info but these are the first I've seen of these. If you ever run into more of the same for a good price please let me know.

Been waiting for you to give me a nudge on PM or email. Give me a shout!biggrin.gif

Great additions to the collection! Keep on truckin'!beer.gif

    6. Hi Troy,

Here's an example of one for you. Sorry but I simply could not find a picture that I could copy and post here.

      http://collections.t...d+herewith&ack=

This will give you more information on him:

      http://books.google....Nicholas+Manley,+CB,+VC&source=bl&ots=hH-4DZRAlA&sig=xOk2tq83_yrmPJ0t8x-1qEkqLSk&hl=en&ei=lpjdS8LGH4bYNtjmgbwH&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=5&ved=0CBIQ6AEwBDgK#v=onepage&q=Surgeon-General%20William%20George%20Nicholas%20Manley%2C%20CB%2C%20VC&f=false

Note that on both pictures it shows his 1870 EK 2nd with the non-combattant ribbon.

Hoping one of the other members will have his picture and can post it here showing same.

So they were indeed definitely worn as non-combattant awards with said ribbon.

      Hope this helps.beer.gif

    7. Okay, this is the only picture I could find on short notice. It's of Wilhelm Canaris (later Admiral and head of the Abwehr (German military intelligence) during WW2) in his WW1 uniform. The position of his EK1 and Uboat badge is about where WB's would have been worn depending on what other awards were worn. In this case it could have been worn next to the Uboat badge or below it. If only an EK1 is worn then directly beneath that. If no EK1 (or similar award taking precedence) then it would have been worn where the EK is. Same for officers or enlisted men... depending again on the type of uniform being worn.

As far as scarcity of photos showing their wear keep in mind that the Kaiser did not establish the army WB until March 3, 1918 and the naval WB until June 24, 1918. Due to the late period of the war when these were established many who were entitled to them did not receive them until after the collapse of the Weimar Republic during the period of the Third Reich. And by then if the naval recipients were on active duty they would have worn the same type as the heer (army), luftwaffe, SS, etc., as there was no separate naval WB used during the TR.

      Hope this helps.

    8. This ran on the Discovery Times Channel. It's excellent! It's called What Happened When: November 9 1989 The Berlin Wall. It tells what happened behind the scenes, especially from the viewpoint of one of the DDR troops that was put on alert and called out to keep the borders secure. They'd not been informed that the government (as it turned out accidentally earlier than planned) decided to open the border. It shows just how close they came to bloodshed and perhaps a potential start to a war.

It uses original footage, reenactments, interviews with the participants and I just can't say enough how great this is. It ran a couple of years ago and no idea if it's run since. I tried to find it online but so far with no success. But I hope ya'll will be able to see it at some point as for anyone with any interest in the DDR, the Wall, etc., this one is a must see.

I did find this. Hoping perhaps it's out on DVD or someone can find it.

    9. Brave guys to do that sort of thing. One round hit's the tanks and you're a human torch... not a nice way to go.unsure.gifsad.gif

But makes sense as especially back in those early days of such weapons I can imagine they were very secretive and considered rather an elite type of force.

      Great pic by the way!beer.gif

    10. No problem. I'm assuming it was a general insignia worn by pretty much all the A/H troops... but I'm far from an expert. Hoping some of the others will pop in with more info. And with the other insignia on the cap hopefully they can nail down a specific unit.

      Good luck!beer.gif

    11. Hi Linas,

I'm not an expert in this area of collecting... just know enough to be dangerous.blush.gif However, my impression of this is that it's probably cast and the center piece looks to me like one of the pips British officer's wear on their shoulderboards.

Here's a couple shots of an Order of the Bath:

As you can see quite a difference. This is an extremely high Order in the British system of ODM's and should be extremely well made of quality materials and workmanship.

To me, what is being offered is something put together to deceive and not well done at all. I'd run... and run fast. Of course this is just my opinion... so I'd recommend waiting to see what other more knowledgeable members have to say.

      Hope this helps.beer.gif

    12. sorry they are all bad or a souvenirs. The badge with 300 in it. It's non official commemorative 300 years of Russian Fleet. If you are interested I can send you a scan fro soviet badges book, the page with commander of submarine, so you will have something to compare.

I'm sorry to hear this but better to know. Luckily I have very little in any of them so not a catastrophe or anything. And yes, I'd be most grateful for anything you could provide in the way of reference material. I've just sent you a PM with my email address.

      Many thanks!beer.gif
