Hi Andreas,
Many thanks for the info! And I know it's impossible to be totally sure until researched but do you feel this would most likely have been a long service award?
Any thoughts on the Glory? I'm thinking 1944 based on the green bible... does that sound right?

Hi Pierce,
Great pics... super bar! Many thanks for sharing. On mine... the backing made me wonder too. Perhaps a wartime device on a post war ribbon... at least that's what I'm thinking. Perhaps before the 57 laws came out. The vet probably figured it was too small to see the swaz... and it's actually hard to see closeup anyhow. Again I'd initially thought it was a denazified one... but although lightly struck it's definitely there. Perhaps the die was polished down in that area but they didn't go far enough to totally obliterate it. I'd initially thought to post this in the postwar German section but once I realized the swaz was indeed there I decided to pop it on over here. Perhaps I should pop it over there as well. Will have to think on it.
Many thanks!

I can vouch for that!
Many thanks for that Travis! I only wish I knew more at times than I do and therefore could be of even more help. And sometimes I know things but I've been away from something for so long that my poor befuddled old brain just can't dig up the info anymore. Thank God for reference material! And again as to Frank, many apologies for this late reply.

This is actually a great find! It's of the highest quality! Many 57'er designs were really "botched" IMHO... This is as crisp as they come. Good for you!
Many thanks Frank! Sorry for the late reply... just seems like every time I sit down to get into making posts, etc., something drags me away and then my early senility kicks in and I completely forget about five dozen things I need to do. But deeply appreciate the comment.

Many thanks to Dean for his extremely nice gifts (including a couple of 57 pieces). Pics are his and used with his very kind permission.

This was a very generous gift from my friend Dean. At first I thought it was a post war version (although the West Wall medal was not redone or allowed in the 57 law) but upon closer inspection I see that it does indeed show the swaz.

Postwar Austrian ribbon bar with German awards:

Now all I need is the 57 version of the 2nd Class Decoration and I'll have the full set. Keeping my fingers crossed that I'll be fortunate enough to find and acquire one to add to the collection some day.

My early senility is kicking in again... I forgot to mention that research is pending on that Order of Glory. Whenever it arrives I'll post it in the research section.

Closeup of the bar:
Bout the best I could do on this one.
Also, would SS-Brigadefuhrer Ulrich Graf have had all three... he was one of the very early members. There's a pic of him in this same volume but I can't make out whether he's got them on his ribbon bar. I've tried to find another matching pic or a better one showing the bar more clearly but can't find one.

Better picture of Schepmann's bar.
I've seen another photo of a bar like this being worn, but I can't remember where.
Robin... don't know if this is the one you were thinking of seeing but I remembered it as showing a bar with all three of the NSDAP awards. I can't for the life of me remember the name of the Gauleiter in this pic but hoping you or one of the other members can fill in that blank.

Hi Timo,
Man, that one is a puzzler... least for me. I've just checked through all the normal U.S. services ribbons... nothing similar. Here's a listing of the State National Guard medals... tons not pictured though as you'll see but figured I'd pass along for reference:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Awards_and_decorations_of_the_National_Guard
But I know that quite a number of State and even local type awards were giving for WW1 as well as other early wars before and for WW1. So quite possibly something like that.
It almost reminds me of the Soviet Order of Victory ribbon in the respect that they made that from the colors of their other awards and put them into one. I can see what looks like the Silver Star ribbon on the right of yours.
Anyhow hoping someone can nail it down. Sure wish Rick were around (I fear he's lost his internet) as he could probably nail it in a heartbeat.
Sure hope it's ID'd thought... very curious to see what it's for.

Hi Gordon,
Many thanks for the confirmation on this one. I was like 99.99999% sure but always good to get another concrete confirmation on such things. Also many thanks for helping out with that shoulderboard post the other day. Deeply appreciate the assistance!

Looks to me like a copy (poor one at that) of a protective case for one of the stopwatches used on Uboats to time torpedo attacks. Also could have been meant for a pocket watch. That's my best guess. If I saw one for super cheap somewhere I'd probably grab it just for a novelty to pop in with my pocket watch collection. But as far as TR... no way. They would not have put a backwards swaz, and the sub just doesn't look right either.
I could be wrong but that's my two pfennigs worth.
