    1. iv seen that before and good documentary! havent a clue about the russian fed awards though!!!:beer:

      Hi Paddy,

Definitely! I can't wait till my son comes down and watches it with me along with the one on the Chinese space race. And actually I need to watch the beginning of it as I came into it about three quarters of the way through. Very good program though. And I caught a few more examples of awards being worn. So hoping next time it's on more folks catch it and perhaps some can figure them out. Would be nice to know.

I'll have to see if I can figure out how to do some screen caps and post the awards as well.

Also as a side note... many thanks for working things out on the OoF. Been dying for one for years and although a copy she's a beaut! Can't wait till she arrives and I see her in person. :jumping::jumping:

    2. Actually, as morbid as it is to consider this, it will be. In a few decades, it will be moving on. So many are offended by the "custodian" point that I'll brush it only in passing. We don't live forever, these awards will (or close enough).

      Hi Ed,

Not morbid at all. As soon as we're born we begin to die. Fact of life. My father raised me with no illusions on that score. But I'll be passing it all down to my son. But again, just in case I'd be willing to mark it... but I would like to know what it translates as. :P

    3. Hello

As Dan spotted, the only difference is that the 2nd class has the two prongs, to attach it to a piece of ribbon, and the 1st class has the pin to allow it to be fastened to the tunic. Otherwise the fronts are the same.

I agree Dan, not a patch on the Third Reich bars - those eagles are just something else - but still part of the 57 new form pieces.

Oh definitely! :jumping::jumping: And that's the major difference I'm guessing... one would go on the ribbon of the IC 2nd (I take it they didn't wear the ribbons themselves on the front button of the tunic in the West German services?) and the other would be worn on the front of the tunic (Above the ribbons? Can't see something that small (it is small right?) being worn where the original wartime spanges were.)

But great pieces. Hoping I'll be able to add some to my small but ever growing 57 collection some day.

      Dan

    4. Hi Gordon,

Many thanks for the additional info. I do remember viewing that post a while back but didn't clearly remember that particular award being in there. Must be why I had this strange feeling in the back of my mind that I'd seen it before.

Glad I was able to get one as it looks like a nice piece with a very nice case... and I do love cases! :jumping::jumping:

      Dan

    5. Hi all,

It's been a bit but here's my latest addition to my Hungarian collection... a cased Vallalat Kivalo Brigadja Medal: :jumping::jumping:

Seller's pic... will do better once it arrives.

Any additional info on this would be deeply appreciated.

I wanted to bid on this about a month or so ago. Couldn't do it as had several other things pending and didn't know if I'd have enough. Turned out I did and no one else bid. I wrote the seller but he wanted to relist. Took him all this time. Yet again, no other bidders so Kim bid on it for me as I was out of town yesterday when it ended. Won it with no competition. :jumping::jumping:

      Dan

    6. Hi all,

Wanted to pop this in here as I'm watching a show on the Science Channel which will repeat later at 2:00 to 3:00 a.m. (Central Standard Time). It's called Tank on the Moon... about the space race and in particular the Soviet Lunakod that landed on the moon. During the program at least one of the scientists I've seen who was involved in that program was wearing his Russian Federation Awards. I felt it might be of interest to our members who collect Soviet and post Soviet awards to watch this program. I'm familiar with the Order on the mans left side but not the two on the right. Hoping someone can ID them.

      Dan

    7. These photos are spectacular! You've done a terrific job on these. I remember my uncle (WWII vet I've posted about before) had the hobby of taking old family photos, getting them deplicated at photo shops and then coloring them in in water colors, oils, etc., in order to colorize them. He did really well. But I can only imagine how happy he would have been being able to do this type of work on a computer system. He wanted to bring such images and memories from the past to life and you folks have succeeded beyond his wildest dreams! Keep up the great work guys! And many thanks for sharing!

      Dan

    8. Hi David,

Very nice! :jumping: Thing is... they both look the same to me. Is there a size or color difference that designates the 1st from the 2nd? I've only seen pics of these, never any in person and can't remember alot about them. I will say that compared with the old WWII spanges I think these were rather a poor substitute by comparison. Don't get me wrong... I like them... they're just not as big and impressive as the originals. A shame they couldn't do the eagles clasping the bar with the 1939 date in place of the swaz. Sigh.

But again, very nice pieces.

      Dan

    9. Here's my addition just obtained from Noor. A fake but a nice one. I'd much prefer an original but I missed my shot many years back going for my October Revolution as it was a bit more affordable (with a stretch) at the time but I've yearned for one of these ever since. I hope to still be able to get an original some day but this will have to fill in for the time being. And I'm seriously considering having "Муляж" deeply engraved on the reverse as was suggested in another thread, although once it's in my hands it won't be going anywhere again... but better to be safe than have it cause problems down the road to someone else. Photos are Noor's and used with his kind permission.

    10. With many thanks to Noor  I'm now the new owner of this bar.:jumping: And as per his earlier request if anyone has or comes up with any information re: Oskar Schmidt, photos, WWII awards not shown on his 57 bar, wartime and/or postwar West German service... anything at all, please let me know or post here. I'd be deeply grateful.

Also here's a shot of the reverse for reference:

The photo is Noor's and used with his kind permission.

      Dan

    11. Hi all,

Here's my latest from Noor. Pics are his and used with his kind permission (Many thanksTimo! ).

It's supposedly named to Oskar Schmidt, an early volunteer to go to Spain with the Legion Condor. Seems he was cabin mate with Hajo Hermann on the steamer Usaramo on the voyage to Spain.

I say "supposedly named" because we have no documentation on this as yet. The original seller on WAF stated in an email that he had purchased the bar, then the person he bought it from told him about it being named... the deal having already been done he felt there was no reason for him to lie about this. He said he has a list of members of the LC and found said individual listed there. I'm hoping to get a scan or copy of this at some point. But for now, I've not been able to find any reference to him on the internet... but I know that's not unusual.

Needless to say if anyone has any additional information on said Oskar Schmidt please let me know. I got the bar for what it is and not so much for the fact that it might, or might not be named. If it is it's icing on the cake and would add much to it in my eyes... but if it turns out to be a tall tail I'm not that concerned.

    13. Hi all,

Well, good to see confirmation, although she's a nice one. I'm the new owner (soon as it arrives in hand in about a week or thereabouts as I just worked a trade for several things with Noor today as well. I've wanted an OoF from day one, but sadly could never work one till it was too late and they went through the roof. I'll always be looking for a real one which I'd still much prefer at a reasonable price, but for now I'm very pleased with this one.

And yes, I'll definitely strongly consider having that engraved on the award. What does it translate as exactly... fake or copy or replica or what?

Very strange to have the original with that number and all the copies turn up with the same number. Fear not though... I plan to keep this one regardless and as I say will probably have that deeply engraved on the back and so solve the problem with this one at the very least.

      Dan

    14. Hi David,

Wow... she's terrific! And a minty one at that!!!!:jumping::jumping: Congrats on a great find and on finishing out your set! As you know I just finished mine out so I know we're both feeling the same way right now. It's so nice to finish off a set. May we never run out of sets to finish as I think it makes us live longer. :D

She's a fine addition to your collection. Keep em' coming!!!!

      Dan

    15. And number four... alas the only one of the four sets without a photo of the recipient:

SOVIET HONORARY DIPLOMA ID RUSSIAN DOCUMENT.

USSR ID That Was Used In Soviet Union.

ID Was awarded To Comrade (Mrs.) Olga Kirpichenko (Laureate Of Ukraine SSR State Prize).

It Is Very Rare Diploma That Says Olga`s Portrait Will Be Set On Main Ukraine Glory Avenue!!!!

As You Can See This DIPLOMA Established By Ukraine Presidium Of Ministers Of USSR & Soviet Working Union!!!!!!

I'm wondering if those portraits are still there. If so... if it might be possible to eventually get a photo of the one to match this document set. If any of our members are ever there and would be willing to check and perhaps get such a photo I'd be deeply grateful.

    16. Number three:

SOVIET HONORARY TITLE DIPLOMA ID RUSSIAN DOCUMENT.

USSR Honorary Diploma ID That Was Used In Soviet Union. This Honorary Diploma Says That There Will Be Portrait Of The Recipient On Labour Glory Avenue!

Diploma ID Was awarded From Ukraine SSR Supreme Ministry & Ukraine SSR Republic Labor Union!!!

ID Was awarded To Comrade (Mrs.) Tamara Zadorozhnya. BY THE WAY HERO OF SOCIALISTIC LABOUR!!!!
