    1. HUPR in Gold is beautiful. Is this the equivalent to the Order of Glory in the Soviet Union?

      Hi Paul,

I definitely agree. Charles outdid himself on this one for sure! :jumping: And there's a bit of a story to this one. He actually had another one on hold at a militaria shop over in Hungary. As he'd gotten something else he offered it to me and I couldn't pass it up. He went to pick it up the next day and when he was chatting with the dealer the dealer dropped it! :o As you can imagine, the enamel shattered and it was ruined! A rare piece made even more so now. And to make things worse, it was a consignment piece! :speechless1:

Well, Charles knew I'd really loved it and how much I had wanted it. Sure enough he went to a show the next day and found this one which is even better! :jumping: Again Charles... many thanks my friend!!!!

But on the other... I'm not sure to be honest. As I say I've still got alot to learn. But I'm sure either Charles or Gordon will pop on and be able to answer this one. An excellent question by the way and one I'd not have thought to ask.

      Dan

    2. That is one fine looking tunic. IT is the first armor example I have seen. Congrats!

      Hi Paul,

Many thanks! Again I couldn't do any of this without Charles. He's been of the greatest help to me, not only in teaching me what I need to know... and boy do I still have tons to learn! But also in hunting down the goodies and getting them for me for good prices. I'm definitely going to have to name the Hungarian wing of the museum after him!

I can't wait for it to arrive being as it's my first Hungarian uniform. I'm hoping for some more before all is said and done. But the first is always the best.

      Dan

    3. And now... without further ado... the star of the show:

      The obverse:

      And the reverse:

I apologize for the small size of the pics. They are the sellers. But I promise as soon as it arrives I'll do better scans and pop them on.

Needless to say we were both thrilled when I won. From what I gather this is probably by far the rarest item of Hungarian militaria in my collection.

I had intended to include the regulations for this badge but sadly I lost them accidently after Charles had been kind enough to type them in and send them over and he'd popped off before I could get him to resend them. So hoping he'll be able to pop them on and include any additional comments he'd like on this neat little piece. :D

Yet again God has seen fit to smile down on me and grant me another great piece for my collection. Thank you God! And many thanks to my good friend Charles without whom I'd have never known this one was anything other than just another common badge.

      Dan

    4. Hi all,

Here's what I understand is a very special and rare piece. First off... a pic from the Hungarian regulations courtesy of Charles (Hunyadi):

Now... a bit of the story. I accidently stumbled on this one in a search on Ebay several days ago. It was not in the Hungarian section nor was it ID'd as Hungarian. It was actually listed with a WWII German Drivers badge. Here's how they were listed:

      2 WWII RUSSIAN/SOVIET UNION LABOR? MEDALS TRUCK/WHEEL

I waited a couple of days but then when chatting with Charles I asked him to check it out and confirm for me if the one was indeed Hungarian as I thought it was. Well, he checked it out and then seemed rather astonished by the piece. He then explained that it's like super rare and that he'd never seen one in the flesh or even a picture save the one above from the regs. :speechless1: This totally threw me for a loop. Here I was thinking it was probably a very common Hungarian badge and nothing out of the ordinary.

So we waited... and prayed... and kept our fingers tightly crossed till the appointed day when the auction ended... today (Friday). And in the meantime it got a bid! :speechless1: Then another. :o But we held firm. We had a plan... up to yay amount it's mine... above that it's Charles. I put in the bid with 45 seconds left.

Needless to say the smoke cleared and I was left standing... with Charles by my side! And I think I did extremely well coming in well below the maximum I had set... and believe me that's an understatement.

    5. So they lured you over into Hungarian stuff too, eh?

      Hi Rick,

Oh goodness... I've been over here collecting Hungarian since before the section got started. :D Great stuff! And more on the way! :jumping: Most of my pieces are in what we call the "big thread" (http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=11559) but I'm starting to put them into a thread by themselves as well so they'll be easier to reference.

So... can we pull you over to the dark side or are you already "one of the Body"? :P You get a bonus point if you know that reference.

      Dan

    6. Dan,

Great Munkasor video! It was made to celebrate 20 years of the Munkasor. 1957 to 1977. Charles and I have a book published to celebrate 10 years of the Munkasor and this is a nice comparison. Good to have you back posting with us again.

      Regards,

      Gordon

Many thanks on all points Gordon. It's great to be back. I've been trying to keep up with the comings and goings here but just been too busy for the most part to do much of anything.

I'm very glad this turned out to be a good one. Seemed to show alot of great uniforms and awards. Also kind of figured it was for a 20th anniversary but hated to put my foot in my mouth until either you or Charles confirmed it. Very glad it helps out.

I've posted some other goodies tonight and it really feels good to be doing that again. Hoping to do some more in the next few days/weeks. I get more enjoyment out of being on here than just about anything else I can think of. :D

      Many thanks!

      Dan

    7. Hi all,

Sorry it's been awhile but had to go on a trip to Florida to help a very dear friend and fellow forum member and I've been working at three jobs and about to start a fourth so needless to say I've been fairly busy and haven't had much time to enjoy on the forum. Hoping that will change as I'm trying to get more time when I'm off and even on my work days to be on here and working on my various hobbies.

This will still take me a while but here are some more additions to the collection. Note that from here on unless otherwise noted the pics are Charles (Hunyadi) and used with permission (Thanks Charles!) and also these same items (unless otherwise noted) were obtained from Charles as well.

      An M63 Colonel (Panzer) uniform:

    8. Hi all,

Well, it's taken a long time... and still a few weeks wait for it to arrive but thanks to Charles (many heartfelt thanks my friend! ) I finally have a Hungarian uniform. These are Charles pics but will take more once I have it and it's on display on a torso.

The badge on the right is the Sports Badge in Silver and the ribbon bar is Two Meritorious Service Medals, 2 Gold Service to the Nation Medals and 25,20,15,10 year service medals.

It comes with the pants. Hoping for a cap for it down the road. :jumping:

Again many thanks Charles... I could not do it without you! I'm deeply grateful for all your help my friend!

      Dan

    9. Hi all,

Sorry I've not been posting much for a while. Had to go to Florida to help out a very dear friend and fellow forum member for a few weeks. Between that and working three jobs (soon to be four) it's been hectic to say the least and not much free time for having fun on here. But I'm trying to sneak back in as much as I can between jobs.

I received two more bars from Charles (again many thanks my friend!!!! ) right before Christmas and this is the first chance I've had to post them. These are Charles pics as I've still not had time to scan new ones.

First the smaller of the two bars:

    10. Hi all,

Wanted to pass on this info. A while ago I'd posted a nice copy of the Victory flag (Post #64 within this thread) and several members expressed an interest. At the time the seller only had the one for sale but then decided to have another run produced. Another of our members purchased one from him and now that I've heard from the seller (Michael Bessler) that the run has been completed and the flags are once again available I thought I'd pass this along in case anyone is interested in obtaining one of these. Again all I can say is that I'm very pleased with mine. It's excellent quality and a great representative piece which would make an excellent backdrop to any Soviet display.

      Here is his Ebay auction:

      http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...em=300204746817

But he said if any of our members would like one you can contact him via email at:

      Michael Bessler <MBESSLER@woh.rr.com>

And he can simply sell it off of Ebay. The price is fixed at $40 plus shipping which of course may vary depending on your location. Again this is an excellent deal as these are not cheap to produce. And again I can state from my experience that he's a pleasure to deal with, he ships promptly and safely and the flag is well worth getting.

      Hope this helps!

      Dan
