    1. Hi Auke

      Glad you like it

I must say I have noticed it before, but now you mention it I can see it :D I dont know the answer but may be one of our more learned members may be able to explain it

      Order of Victory

      Hi Gents,

Here's the scoop on the ribbons. When the left part of the ribbon all but covers the right one that's generally for non-military forces like police, etc. Whereas the ones with the right part of the ribbon all but covering the left are for the military services.

    2. This set is comming into my collection in a next couple of days and I'd really like to know the approximate price for it since there's almost no items of St.H seen on the international market. A couple of times I saw a badge selling for around 80 euro and that's it.

OK, the set contains a small zinc badge and a big plastic badge of St.H, Mitliedkarte (member's card) and the gem of the set is St.H armband in very good condition. Quite rare!

      Thanks!

      Hi Explorer,

First off, welcome to the club! Secondly, I tried to view the image and it took forever to load. I hope you don't mind but I've taken the liberty, copied it over to my system, resized it so it would fit and am reposting it here so it'll be quicker for other members to see:

Hope this helps. They look like terrific pieces. My favorite color is green so they definitely have my vote!

      Dan

    3. Ulsterman,

I would say that the Kivalo shown has the cim glued into place. I/we often find them with the cim loose and I just glue it back in place with crazy glue.

      Regards,

      Gordon

This explains the fall of communism! They didn't have crazy glue. :cheeky: They just went to pieces and could not repair the damage as efficiently as the west who have tons of crazy glue on hand at all times for just such emergencies. :jumping::jumping:

Seriously though... some terrific pieces. Absolutely love any and all of the cased sets and that Miners medal from 77 on is outstanding!:love:

      Dan

    4. Thanks to all once again. Sadly I have to sell the DKIG in order to keep the RK. :(

      Hi Charles,

Terrific pieces and great finds! You do have the luck of the Irish when it comes to finding goodies like this. And don't feel bad about having to let the DKIG go... I've seen quite a few of those over the years although never in the earlier type case... either no case or the plastic type like I have. But you'll definitely be able to get another down the road if you wanted one. But the RK's... most of what I see are the later junk on Ebay and such.

Another terrific addition to your collection! Can't wait to see it in person when you're back in the states. :jumping::jumping:

      Congratulations my friend!!!!

      Dan

    5. Dear Gary,

what are "riker mounts" ? Sorry ...., I am Austrian ;) .

For just to have dabbled in Soviet Orders a HSU, screwback Lenin, Motherland-Trio, etc. it's quite a lot :jumping: .

1993 had been a good time for Soviet Awards: Low prices & and not so many (high-end) fakes at the market.

Seems, that you made around 1000 % profit with your investment at least :D .

      Best regards

      Christian

      Hi Christian,

Just wanted to pop in real quick on this one. Riker Mounts are trays, generally made of heavy cardstock (cardboard), usually black in color, although they are also made with plastic now, with a glass top.

They were originally used in scientific collections, like butterflies and insect specimens. But later became popular as a way to display many different types of collectibles. I'm sure you've seen tons of them but just knew them by a different name, as they are very popular among those who deal at flea markets, shops and shows.

      Hope this helps.

      Dan

    6. Hey Dan - yes - its the sports badge, but this is an MHSZ badge - latter form. You have the MHS badge (same organization) which is much earlier.

Oops! Sorry bout that... can't see that part that clearly in the pic. And I was so hoping. But hey, you're getting closer!:jumping:

      God will provide! :jumping::jumping:

      Dan

    7. Hi Sergey,

Fantastic pics! Makes me want to hop a plane and come join you for a walk in the woods! Can't find goodies like that here. :P

But amen to Paul's comment... please be careful!!!! :speechless1: We want you to be around taking pics and putting together displays for a long, long time to come! :jumping::jumping:

Thanks so much for sharing your adventures with us.

      Dan

    8. Hi all,

Hope it's okay to post this here... going to put it in the lounge as well but I know not everyone visits there so wanted to make sure anyone interested would be able to see this.

Here's the story. A young woman purchased several lots in Stutsman County North Dakota a few years ago. Seems she got them fairly cheap, sight unseen and intended to build a house there in a few years. One of the lots has a house and a trailer on it. Well, she's now in her twenties, married and wants to built their dream house on the lots.

They go to check out the house and trailer and find them packed with all sorts of stuff... collectibles, that sort of thing. Literally the old woman who originally owned the home had packed it so full of stuff you couldn't slip in a piece of paper! :speechless1:

So the new owner decided to hold an auction in order to clear it all out. And there was an item of interest in amongst the rest which is why I'm posting it here. And although I didn't think these items went for anywhere near the price this sold for... nonetheless the item in question went very high. Would love opinions as to whether it went high or was reasonable. But I was under the impression such an item would go for about $2,500 or thereabouts.

Without further ado here's the link to the video:

    9. Hello Dan ,

The service medal fits snug , but it looks like it was made yesterday !

As for the Sports badge i just keep my eyes on Ebay here in the UK and Germany , it,s a pity the exchange rate is clobbering you guys over the pond .

      Cheers

      Grant

      Hi Grant,

Hmmm, guess it varied by maker or something. But mine also looks like brand new. Just new stocks that were never given out I'm sure... like so much of the DDR militaria.

Well, the rates aren't helping much but often it's just a case of not finding the same type of material over here. I don't know why it is but as an example those medals with the short ribbons... various types, organizations, etc., like the Reichbahn medals, medal medals, etc., I see tons of them in the UK and over in Germany. But here... few and far between. At least on Ebay. Just one of those things I guess.

And now with the international rates going up it's going to be harder for ya'll to get things from over here. Basically as of May 14th the rates go up with Global Priority going from around $4 to $6 to $11! Then Global Express which was $26 as a base rate is going up to $40 for the base rate!!!! :speechless1: I think it's insanity! No idea how folks will be able to afford it.

      Dan
