A great thread!!!!

I too would love one to someone involved in some significant way with an event that's in the history books.

Would love to have an award to a female... especially to an officer and have it include a photo(s) with at least one of them showing the same award(s) I have. That last goes for a man or woman. Having a picture makes more of a personal connection... but then seeing the same awards in the photo... that to me is the ultimate. Especially if there is someone special about one of the awards... a bit of missing enamel... a bent portion of the award... something that matches what is in ones hand.

Hi Nick. Sorry for the late response. Things have continued to be rather insane around here. Leg is MUCH better... just gives me a bit of trouble depending on how the weather is but not too often.

Many thanks for the comment on the badge. I wondered if you could elaborate on the reasons you don't like it. It's one that a friend has and intends to sell. Sadly, he's not a collector... just bought out a militaria shop from an owner who was in financial difficulties. He felt he'd easily be able to move things on Ebay but has been finding out it's not quite that simple. In trying to research things one of the first places he went was collectrussia (see link in post 36) and of course it's big bucks. He's not at all sure it's an original... just compared the photos and he's leaning that way. If it is, great... if not I need to show him why it's not and give an idea of what it's worth as a copy.

As always, any help deeply appreciated. This is more of a specialized area for which I have no specific reference books, etc. I'm learning along with alot of others. Would be most grateful for anything that will help point us in the right direction to knowing if this one is, for sure... good or not.

I'd posted this in the Lounge as it seems we no longer have a guest/members help section... at least not that I can see. Dave Danner kindly ID'd it as being Latvian... probably a sea rescue medal.

So wondered if anyone could put a positive ID to this one and give a rough value on it? I'm intro'd in it and the current owner doesn't have a clue what it is and I'm basically in the same boat. I want to be fair and also would like to know what it is if possible.

Seems we don't have sections for guest or member help anymore... at least that I could find. No idea where to post this as not sure which language it is. Hi all. Hoping this is the right place for this. I've just been given this as a gift. A nice crossover between my hobbies of militaria and pocket watches (horology). An engraved watch case... this is the info I have on it:

Engraved German Silver presentation watch case to a Sgt Major W. Satchell of the Royal Horse Artillery in 1913.

Not sure what the W.O. in parens is... possibly Weapons Officer? Hoping someone can help on that. Also not sure what the "S" before the R.H.A. (Royal Horse Artillery?) stands for.

It's complete with the crystal... only needs a new movement/dial, etc., to make it complete. Assuming the original movement died over time and was removed for whatever reason. A shame as would have been nice had it all been kept together, even in non running condition.

No idea if it's possible to research this individual, or if so, what kind of info I might get... be nice to find out some personal info, where he served, any awards he might have received and what happened to him.

Anyhow, I'm hoping some of you that are far, far more knowlegeable than I might be able/willing to help me out with this. Will keep my fingers tightly crossed as I'd LOVE to put some history back with this item.

Short description of personal combat feat or accomplishment

Working on the front-line medical point in combat on the approaches to Koenigsberg 7.4.45, Comrade Prusetskii organized excellent medical help to wounded soldiers and officers under difficult conditions under artillery and mortar fire. Over two days from 6-7.4.45 he worked without relief in bandaging and rendering medical care to 75 wounded soldiers and officers. Despite the difficult combat conditions he personally made 16 blood transfusions to wounded and 22 (?)XXXXXXXXX.

Through his selfless work in rendering first aid to wounded soldiers and commanders he enabled the accomplishment of the assigned combat mission.

For selfless labor in rendering medical aid to the wounded and for personal bravery and valor in the struggle with the German invaders he is deserving of the Order of the Patriotic War II Class.

In fighting for a heavily defended enemy strongpoint (?)rizergarten on 20 March 1945, Comrade Kandavadze was the first to rush into the settlement, where they destroy eight German soldiers, suppressed the fire of two enemy firing positions, and continued a pursuit of the Germans.

He displayed personal, officer bravery in fighting for Hill 171.0 on 21.3.1945 where he personally killed two German soldiers with his assigned sidearm and took one prisoner. He was seriously wounded in this engagement.

He is deserving of the Order of the Patriotic War II Class.
