    1. Dear Paddy, my first 3 ranks - just my feeling: 1) Glory 2cl (+ his Glory 3cl and the other awards) 2) Red Banner (has a rather low s/n.!) 3) Nevsky I assume, that your Glory 2cl and the early Red Banner had been confered for quite heroic deeds in the line of fire . Best regards Christian
    2. Dear Jim, that's not correct: Pay for 2 Porsche - get 1 free Volga . Best regards Christian BTW: Such a Volga tuned up with 500 hp + stalinistic airbrush paintings is much rarer than any Porsche .
    3. Gentlemen, if you are interested to hear the "correct" songs to your DDR orders & medals, there is an excellent CD with original songs with an very informative booklet (only in German ): http://www.amazon.de/Die-Partei-Hat-Immer-...t/dp/B0000264MY Costs only a few bucks . Best regards Christian
    4. Dear Bryan, well, I think we agreed, to include awards in our YU-section till the end of the Milosevic-era and call them "transitional" items . Due to the fact, that Yugoslavia still used the old communist forms of orders & medals and Yugoslavia under the Milosevic-regime had still somehow a "socialist" character. So it is quite "legal" to post at the YU-section threads dealing with awards or historic events up to october 2000 . The rest of the YU-awards - before 1943 and after october 2000 - is part of JimZ's rather new section. Best regards Christian
    5. Dear Dave, many thanks for your expertise . I actually didn't know, that invalid veterans got "automatically" an OGPW 1cl in 1985 . Best regards Christian
    6. Dear Bryan, that's absolutly correct, but our dear Chairman named our hughe section "Soviet & Communist Era Militaria & Awards" . So, at that section of GMIC the 9th of may seems to be more aprobriate . Best regards Christian
    7. You watched RTS-television too short: Mr. Nikolic had been elected for president just before 0400 . Well, the debate in the Serbian Parliament sounded a bit queer according to European habits . At least Mr. Nikolic is an educated man and fond of Serbian & Yugoslav traditions - also of orders & medals . An SRS, DSS & SPS coalition in government might induce raising prices for Yugoslav decorations ? Pozdrav Christian
    8. Dear Christophe, congratulations to your victory #17 . You are coming (very) close & France has taken the lead . Best regards Christian
    9. Dear Bryan, the 9th of may is tomorow ... Best regards Christian
    10. Dear Rick, o.k., if it's one of the "disabled-sets", why didn't he get another OPW 2cl in 1985 ? Our comrade got in 1985 an OPW 1cl ... Best regards Christian
    11. Dear Vic, great set . You should research them, because the comrade should have got some other decorations of the GPW before. If he only got only the OPW 2cl in 1967 (as a catch-up) and nothing more for his service in the GPW, then it is highly unusual, that he received a OPW 1cl in 1985 . Best regards Christian
    12. Dragi Milane, many thanks for your research in terms of getting the Russian medal . I would need at least 2 medals: One for the collection of my daughter Milica and one for my own collection. I assume, there might be a demand of at least 10 of these medals among our GMIC-members ... Pristina airport at the 12th of june 1999 had been a key-event in Serbian history, but also in world history, I think. Who knows, maybe we will see NEW Russians medals for the Westbalkans: Kosovo 2007 & Republika Srpska 2008 . At least Tomislav Nikolic got today President of the Serbian Parliament . Pozdrav Christian
    13. Dear Christophe, many thanks for the scans & infos . The medal seems to be painted and not enameled ? Best regards Christian BTW: Medal has to be rare, because there had been only a few hundred soldiers involved into the raid to Pristina. So I think, that the mint manufactured not more than 1.000 pieces ?
    14. Dear Milan, no problem, that's what I tought . Do you know, where to get a (Russian) "Bosnia-Kosovo"-Medal of the 12th of june 1999 http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=18111 ? Many thanks for your support & expertise . Best regards Christian
    15. Dear Bryan, never seen that monument before .... These are the "big 3" from the beginning of the Potsdam-Conference (Churchill had been replaced, due to the lost election): Seems that this monument was located in Germany, around Potsdam, Berlin .... It's a Soviet monument with Russian letters. Somehow a monument to commorate the 3 Allies in WW II and their victory over Nazi-Germany ? Best regards Christian BTW: Why didn't they take Roosevelt instead of Truman ?
    16. Medalja "Mars-Broska" - Russian "Bosnia-Kosovo"-Medal, 12.06.1999 Gentlemen, does anyone have informations in English and/or scans about that extraordinary Russian Medal, which was given for the raid to the airport of Pristina at the 12th of june 1999 ? That action might have developed into a severe military confrontation between NATO vs. Russia, if Gen. Walker wouldn't have refused the order from Gen. Clark, who had been kicked out of the US-Army afterwards: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wesley_Clark . Gen. Mike Walker told to Gen. Wesley Clark on phone: "I'm not going to start the Third World War for you." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mike_Jackson The medal had been issued by the "Russian Ministery of Defence" in 2 classes ( ?) and medal has an engraved s/n. at the rv. That's a link to an article about that medal in Srpski: http://www.snd.org.yu/dinar/28/07.faleristika.pdf (please scroll down to the article!) Is it possible to buy such a medal + document somewhere ? Best regards Christian
    17. Dear Milan, many thanks for the link to the Belgrade-auction . But there I found only coins and no orders & medals . Do they still fill their website for the auction up ? Best regards Christian
    18. Dear Ed, dear Christophe, well, that tiny (165 cm) Hungarian aristocrat (de Nagy-Bocsa) might raise the interest in Paris for orders & medals from Austria-Hungary & from the Horthy-Era . At least as a PR-man for the German top-company "Alfred K?rcher GmbH & Co. KG" http://www.karcher.com/ France's new president did a great job . Who knows, what the future will bring : Maybe the Hungarians might elect a French aristocrat as president of Hungary? Anyway, Sarko as president for France might be good for Hungary in the EU . Best regards Christian BTW: K?rcher cleans the world - even Mt. Rushmore in the USA - and K?rcher will clean France .
    19. Present market realities Gentlemen, taking the weak USD + the extraordinary fine "fresh-from-the-mint" quality of Darrell's "Medal for Saving Life from Drowning" into account, the price tag at a dealers website might get above USD 500,- . That medal is rare - I had never one in my hands - and, so I assume, well kept by their owners, because it's a very special medal. To get a documented set with 2 of these medals + booklets, like Dave Schwind shows at his website, seems almost to be impossible. Best regards Christian BTW: Igor shows one for USD 445,- http://www.collectrussia.com/DISPITEM.HTM?ITEM=13479
    20. Dear Christophe, that's correct . But I have noticed, that there rather few French speaking people at the militaria forums around - why ? The French speaking population is as large- France, Switzerland, Canada, Africa, etc. -, as the German speaking population, but that's not represented in our collectors world. So, the French are the real heros . Best regards Christian
    21. Dear Bryan, congratulations to your #10 victory . Now the "Francophone"-group has as many good answers as the "German-language"-group: 31 vs. 31 . (1st group includes Romania and 2nd includes Holland.) One of the ugly leatherchairs from the "Palast der Republik" is now in a country house for renting in Poland: http://www.ferien-miete.de/details.php?object=4327 (please scroll down - besides the billiard-table). As it looks, Honecker hardly used that office . Best regards Christian
    22. Dear Christophe, yes, you are right: The window doesen't match ... . Might be a room at the SED-HQ ? They had larger windows in that style. But I don't think, that's an office of one of THE top-officials of the GDR. Military ? Soviet Forces in the GDR ? No idea ... Best regards Christian BTW: The panorama-views of the Stasi-HQ are really great .
