    Cased Gold Wound Badge

    Recommended Posts

It's a nice earlier KB box, earlier in the regard of a chronological sense of maunfacture, the next design in the KB series appears to have a flatter lid and differnt catch make-up (both catches relate to earlier and later variants in other boxes by KB). Not really much in them, just a few minor things I've noted.

Of course then you the mulitude of 629 base cardboard boxes, I don't have my files open but there's around 14 variants in the KB range, generic and contract purpose boxes.

Whats nice about Darrels is the condition of the box.

On the badge, well as we're all basically from the WAF, Chris V has said the thin pin versions are somewhat later and the broad pin earlier.

I'm not to sure on this, as I know of two examples documented in groups that are thin pinned and were issued in 1940 & 1941.

    I don't know ????

    Does anyone else ?

According to Tucker's "Combat Badges of the Third Reich" a wide pin 30 like mine is illustrated. He dates the manufacture from Sep 1939 through June 1942.

    Thanks Don and Darrel,

Thats very interseting, I'm more than likely barking up the wrong the tree laugh.gif

Still Darrel, you have a nice set then, earlier style box and earlier WB wub.gif

Note also on Darrels box the external base of the box, see how the outer covering is a different outer covering.......its an incoperated different outer covering unlike 99% of the later or later war boxes of any award in box (Not Luft, that I know off) which if with this addition to detail would be applied lastly it appears and more often than not significantly differnt material to the rest of the box.

This material, along with velour, and brushed pile velour paper and other was to used inside the box to cover the area visible through the slit in the box and covered the catch too.

I'm probably not makeing to much sense and when I get the medals out of the secure place, I'll take some pic's and show you what I mean.
