Ed_Haynes Posted November 10, 2006 Posted November 10, 2006 May we post Chechen awards here?Order of SchamilNot much known, but in two classes. Named after Schamil, one of the anti-Russian Chechen leaders of the nineteenth centuiry.Screwbacked, with a slightly "Soviet" feel, but of fairly light construction.See other Chechen awards at http://www.syrtash.com/showgallery.php?cat=561
Ed_Haynes Posted November 10, 2006 Author Posted November 10, 2006 Came with a patch, and while I don't "do" patches, here it is too anyway:
Christian Zulus Posted November 10, 2006 Posted November 10, 2006 Dear Ed,many thanks for sharing these rare awards with us .It had been new to me, that Chechens issue awards .Do other islamistic groups also have their awards - or is that only a habit in the former Soviet Union?Maybe there exists somewhere an "Order of Allah" or an medal for "Merits to the Jihad" .Best regardsChristianP.S.: The Catholic Church (Vatican) has its Orders & Medals .
Gaffken Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 Ed, Great thread; thanks for posting. I have a silver-level badge myself, and seem to recall there being a third (maybe bronze?) class, but don't seem to have saved a scan, nor have one in my possession. What little I do know of the awards is that they appeared after the first war ('94-96), and were likely issued up into the second ('99 to present) by the nationalist faction that touched off the first war under Dudayev & Maskadov, rather than the foreign islamic extremists that dominated the second (hence the picture of nationalist Shamil in the center). I've never seen any other Chechen decorations except for these, though there's quite a prolific set of patches out there, as I understand. If anyone out there would happen to have a photo of these awards being worn, that would be gangbusters Gaffken
Riley1965 Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 Ed, Thanks for posting the Chechen Orders and patch. These are the first I can remeber seeing. Doc
ilja559 Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 Made in Turkey. It was planned to make clasp for the companies- "ARGUN", "SHATOI", "BAMUT", "GUDERMES".
Gaffken Posted November 12, 2006 Posted November 12, 2006 Ilja--amazing! I've never seen these before...I just wish I could read Chechen. The Groznyy medal is particularly interesting...it seems to show an image of the old Presidential Palace there. Are you aware of any more Chechen awards besides these?Gaffken
