Nowadays the austrian oder-system is a little bit complex.

There exist 15 classes of the national merit order (instututed in 1952):

Jacky the document states the award was to FRAU DIREKTOP thats Lady Director so its to a civilian, for good work in the service of Austria, so maybe its for political / Civil services rendered to the state, and not connected to the military.

A bit late reaction, but what I meant with Officers class is the international nomen-clatuur of decorations.

I meant this officer, the grade between commander ?nd knight

Gentlemen,

that's my Austrian Award .

Well, it didn't receive that Order from the President of the Austrian Republic - I bought an immaculate finished item from the former juweler "Alfred Reitterer" (without engraved name ) -, but it doesn't seem so unlikely, that I will get exactly this order within the coming 5 years .

The outstanding Austrian architect Oswald Haerdtl http://www.azw.at/www.architektenlexikon.at/de/200.htm designed all the Austrian awards in 1952: Ehrenzeichen, etc. and also in 1935 the "?sterreichisches Ehrenzeichen f?r Kunst und Wissenschaft".
