Flyingdutchman Posted November 16, 2006 Posted November 16, 2006 Gentlemen, what kind of badge is this ?I believe it has something to do with the German Aero Club and German Volunteer Automobile-Corps.Maybe a badge from the Prinz Heinrich races ? Both paramilitary organizations participated in those races.Would be great to hear the thoughts of the fellow members.Best;Flyingdutchman
Chip Posted November 17, 2006 Posted November 17, 2006 dutchman,I am not sure what exact organization that the badge represents, but it is definitely a non-military piece. It looks very similar to the various Flottenverein cap badges of the period (blue/black cloth oval with a naval style gilt ring). So I would think, given the motif, it is either an ex-pilot association, flying club or something on that order.Chip
Stogieman Posted November 18, 2006 Posted November 18, 2006 It is really interesting. If it wasn't for the darn steering wheel, I'd agree Aero Club!

Riley1965 Posted November 18, 2006 Posted November 18, 2006 Kevin,That's an interesting thought!! It kinda reminds me of the shoulderboard device of the Soviet Air Force Technical Branch. Doc
Flyingdutchman Posted November 18, 2006 Author Posted November 18, 2006 (edited) Hi all,Soviet ? No ! Crossed prop and the prussian crown and eagle with the "Reichsfarben" black/white/red ?? This is Aero Club. But why there is a steering wheel and the wings ? Luftschiffe ? Maybe. They had control sticks ? Not sure.My idea was Prince Henry races and flights 1913 and 1914 ? German Volunteer Automobile-Corps members and Aero Club members participated. Vic Diehl and I want to feature this badge in our Aero-Corps article. Not a good idea without any special knowledge what it really is... Luftschiffe, maybe. Thanks for your help !Best regards;Flyingdutchman Edited November 18, 2006 by Flyingdutchman

Riley1965 Posted November 19, 2006 Posted November 19, 2006 (edited) Flying Dutchman,I know it's not soviet and it's Prussian. I was making a comment on parts of its styling. Doc Edited November 19, 2006 by Riley1965
