Danziger Posted November 20, 2006 Posted November 20, 2006 Hi all,I thought I show you my latest purchase. A Danziger Kreuz 1st class without needle but with makers mark, a Danziger Kreuz 2nd class without makers mark and a miniature. All found together in the soil below a spot where there must have been some fire at some stage.Although the Danziger Kreuz 1st class shows some warping due to the heat the enamel is in very good condition.Best,Danziger[attachmentid=61474]

Danziger Posted November 20, 2006 Author Posted November 20, 2006 Nice awards, what were they awarded for??Kind regards.Hi Jacky,Thank you. The Danzig Cross or Danziger Kreuz (also Kreuz von Danzig) was a political award by the local NSDAP in Danzig. It was awarded for substantial support and work for the NSDAP in Danzig. However, not only politicians did receive the Danzig Cross but many military personnel, for example the officers of the SS-Heimwehr Danzig received it.Best,Rene
Kev in Deva Posted November 20, 2006 Posted November 20, 2006 Hallo Danziger Congrats on your find If original then has to be extremly rare as only 88 first class, and 258 second class were awarded. Can you please post close ups of the rivets to the rear, of the first class and second class and the measurements of the crosses. I remember reading that it is known that in the 1960s a number of restrikes of the First Class were produced in Germany.Kevin in Deva.

Unfortunately, I cannot post bigger pictures here in the forum but can send you some by email. I have no doubt about originality as I have checked them against my previous pieces in the collection as well as send the large images to a collection expert in Germany.I can understand you being careful though as there have been quite a lot of remakes of these. Please send me your email address and I will forward you the pictures.Best,Rene
