Marcin L Posted January 24, 2007 Author Posted January 24, 2007 Thank you Glenn Do you have any picture of him?Regards,Marcin
Mike Dwyer Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 (edited) I'm not sure what uniform that is in GlennJ's picture, but I believe it's post-war and non-army. Here's a picture of Freiherr von Gebsattel in his army uniform. Edited January 25, 2007 by Mike Dwyer
Guest Rick Research Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 That's a pre-war style Litewka updated with the M1916 Bavarian "Abzeichenborte" in Glenn's wartime portrait.I really like the interesting comments added on the BACK of the award document-- it took MONTHS for the document and award to actually reach him-- by which time and place he'd become an Unteroffizier!
Mike Dwyer Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 (edited) That's a pre-war style Litewka updated with the M1916 Bavarian "Abzeichenborte" in Glenn's wartime portrait.Rick,I'm probably wrong, but I don't think so. I've seen a colorized copy of that photo somewhere before (I realize that the colors could have been wrong) and in that photo the coat, if I remember correctly, was dark green, the collar was black and the braid edging was gold. If you'll look very carefully at the braid, I don't think it has the checkered pattern of the Abzeichenborte. Gebsattel is much, much older in that photo than in mine. I believe that photo was taken well after the war and I think he's wearing some type of civil uniform, or perhaps of some type of organization. Edited January 25, 2007 by Mike Dwyer
Chip Posted February 4, 2007 Posted February 4, 2007 Guys,I'm pretty sure that v. Gebsattel is wearing the Bavarian M16 Kleine Rock. You can see the darker collar patches with button. The Litewka were light gray as opposed to the Kleiner Rock, which was Feldgrau. The thin collar braid looks like the Bavarian Hoheitsborte to me. Mike's picture looks like it was taken pre-1897, while the other photo can be no earlier than 1916 and no later than 1918.Chip
