    Hallo Gents,

maybe one of our Belgian or French members could shed some light on what this medal was issued for:

I presume a veterans association connection?.

    Size 30mm in silver gilt.

    The front:

To the rear is: LA FRATERNELLE DES ANCIENS COMBATTANTS LIBERAUX DE SCHAERBEEK ASON PRESIDENT 29-1-38.

Who was Maurice Soupart ? a Ww1 veteran??

    Hello Kevin,

You presume correctly althought this local award has a political connextion too. The reverse legend rather explains it all :

The Brotherhood of Liberal Veterans of Schaarbeek to its President 29-1-38.

The Soupart guy was, according to the obverse legend, alderman of the Schaarbeek suburb in Brussels. As he's mentioned to be president of the society, I think it's safe to assume he was a WWI veteran himself (although, in politics, who can be sure  ?).

    Cheers,

    Hendrik

A Maurice Soupart died in a POW camp ( at least I think it was a POW camp) on July 10, 1945. He was a Major d'Artillerie.

    BW Roger Soupart (yes, related)

    Hello Robert,

I can confirm he died as a POW ... "In memory of Artillery Major Maurice Soupart, - Died for the country in the camp of Prenzlau (? - not sure I read that right) ... after a long and painful captivity"
