    Dockyard workers badges

    Recommended Posts

I picked these two up in a deal the other day. I know that the Norway badge is original, but the pin was missing and the previous owner,

for some strange reason, had one attached. The other (West France) looks very good, but I have never seen one illustrated with a knurled pin. It also has a strange maker mark. Opinions?

    Regards,

    Pete

Very interesrting Werftleistungsabzeichen. Never seen a marked one before, but I do like the look of this one.

It often used to be claimed that original period stickpins should have a twist to the pin but that theory is utter nonsense. There are plenty of good original pieces with smooth pins and plenty of fakes with twisted pins. It's an irrelevance.

In the case of this award, most originals I have seen have had smooth untwisted pins, but I wouldn't treat that as a determining factor.

    I like yours.

    Thanks for the input Gordon.

If right, this makes the recent deal OK. The only other thing I can't make out is whether it is a silver or bronze badge. In some lights it appears to have a very thin bronze wash, especially on the reverse.

Will you be at the Motor Cycle Museum militaria fair tomorrow? Or anyone?

    Regards,

    Pete

TheNorway badge is extreemly rare. If my memory serves me right, the pin is a plain one. The FRench one comes in a number of sizes. These I have in the new book on the KM. CONGRATULATION ON OBTAINING ONE OF THE RAREST OF THE AWARD, Norway badge.

Unfortunatly I have just found out that the West France badge illustrated above, will produce an excellent grey line when rubbed on paper, i.e you can write with it!!!!

It don't bend, but I am now of the opinion that it is bent!!!

Any positive posts extreemly welcome, as in the deal that I did, this gave that extra bonus.

Please confirm and it will be posted in the fakes thread.

    Ho Hum,

    Ta,

    Pete
