France Napoleon 3 ring; French (military)?

I don?t know exactly where to post this ring ; I found this ring on a militaria show. It is made of a kind of brass alloy, however it does not corrode; it has no patina.

On the ring is depicted Napoleon 3. Is there in the 20th century any relation to Napoleon 3 , concerning politics or military?

Personally I can't see any as the French 3rd Republic started in 1870 ... nice and interesting item nevertheless !
