asking the experts again, what this is, I think my copy is a cheap fake, the edges have file marks, even though I suspect the ribbon might be contemporary

Hallo Alex K,

this is the Austrian Emperor Franz Josef Bravery award, it can be found in Bronze and Silver (the Silver was also issued in a large size as well) please see page 6 Post 106 at:

I have never encountered a zink version of it, and maybe some of the other Forumites could add there comments here.

Old F J kicked the bucket in 1916 and Emperor Carl / Karl / Carol started to issue his version of the Austrian Bravery Medals, they have got Carls image and the word "Fortividini" to the rear, instead of "Der Tapferkeit".

It could well be a cheapo wearing duplicate-- but in any case, you've got the right ribbon there you need for your cased ?M3K!

IMHO - its a nice post war duplicate that could be bought in many shops after the war - I like these for the history...IE - the Hungarian Red Army of 1919 - solders would hav eworn these types...

Hi guys thanks for the quick respnses, I must admit that I believed it to be a copy due to the zinc (Non silver) manufacture, I have not seen a silver version of this so far. I will keep an eye open. It is pleasant to note that there is so much knowledge out there that can help the unwary/new guy who sees something they like and buys it on the spur of the moment, hoping its a regular piece
