    King William III

    25 August 1696

    Military Commission appointing Richard Hamaker to be a Lt in the Regiment of Foot under the command of Colonel William Seymour and Capt John Gilbert. This document signed by the king while on campaign during the War of the Grand Alliance in Flanders Our Court at Loo.

    William the Third by the Grace of God. King of England, Scotland, France and Ireland. Defender of the Faith. To our trusty and welbeloved Richard Hamaker Gent. Greetings we do by these presents constitute and appoint you to be Lieutenant to the company of (Granad ???) in our regiment of foot commanded by our trusty and welbeloved Colonel William Seymour where of John Gilbert Esq. is Captain. Your are therefore carefully and deligently to discharge the duty of Lieutenant by exercising and well disciplining as well the inferior officers as soldiers of that company and we hereby command them to obey you as their lieutenant and you to observe and follow such orders and directions from time to time as you shall receive from your Colonel, Captain, or any other your superior officer according to the rules and discipline of war, in ursuance of the trust we hereby repose in you given at our Court at Loo this 25 of August 1696. In the eighth year of our reign.

    He established the War office as a department of the British Government and established the colony of Massachusetts Bay and was Secretary of State from 1692-1702.

    William and Mary made Het Loo mostly what it is today...

    It also has an awesome collection of ODM from around the world, for those of you who are ever in the area.
