Greetings we do by these presents constitute and appoint you to be Lieutenant to the company of (Granad ???) in our regiment of foot commanded by our trusty and welbeloved Colonel William Seymour where of John Gilbert Esq. is Captain. Your are therefore carefully and deligently to discharge the duty of Lieutenant by exercising and well disciplining as well the inferior officers as soldiers of that company and we hereby command them to obey you as their lieutenant and you to observe and follow such orders and directions from time to time as you shall receive from your Colonel, Captain, or any other your superior officer according to the rules and discipline of war, in ursuance of the trust we hereby repose in you given at our Court at Loo this 25 of August 1696.
