Good day gentlemen, I'm brand new to this forum and a this is the first Iron Cross I have ever owned. It was purchased on the 22 April 2007 in Germany. The town is called M?lheim an der Ruhr, situated close to Essen.

I believe it to be a 1st class Iron Cross in it's original LDO box.

I would your thought regarding the very fain inscriptions scratched on the rear. I have tried to take close-up pictures which I will post at the end of this text.

As far as I can make-out the inscriptions are as follows:

Date under pin is : 27/10/42

Left side : ASINKOWA (the N however is reversed)

Ride side: NOWA or NEWA or NAWA (cannot make out the second letter / again the N is reversed)

Beneath these letters is another date which looks to be 28/9/42

Any help with this will be greatly appreciated.

    Hello,

Nice looking EK1. Unfortunately the photos are not clear enough to see the inscriptions you describe.

    Hi Rich

Thanks for the response. It is extremely difficult to get good pictures of these inscriptions as they are very faint. Very difficult to see, even with the naked eye.

Here are a few attempts - which I hope work

The first picture shows a NAWA, NOWA or NEWA (the N is reversed)

This picture shows ASINKOWA (again the N is reversed)

Do you think these may be Places, Names, etc. - and is this even German. Especially the reversed N.

May there be any significance of the two dates.
