    Dear Doc,

that's a anniversary-medal celebrating 50 years (1848 - 1898) of the rule of Emporer Franz Joseph AND it seems to be a special medal for school-children, because the inscription at the rv. says:

"To the children for the anniversary celebration"

The ribbon shows the colours of imperial Austria (= one part of the k.u.k.-Empire, the other part was Hungary): Black & gold.

Retz is a very nice & charming small town with a long history in the north of Austria at the border to the Czech Republic. Retz is famous for it's excellent wines :D .

    Best regards
