James T Posted July 3, 2007 Posted July 3, 2007 I purchased this cased DFC from a aviation collection about 10 years ago and like the rest have never researched it. The only information I have is that it was in the London Gazette 30 May 1924 page 4313 for service with the Waziristan Force Jan 22 to April 23 1923. Not knowing British Military history I don't know what this means.Thought you would like to see the medal.RegardsJim
Tiger-pie Posted July 3, 2007 Posted July 3, 2007 (edited) North Western Frontier, i.e. India, the area adjacent to Afganistan. The Waristan Force was a combined arms unit made up of British and Indian troops. There were quite a few scraps in that area. See below link for eligibility of clasps to the India General Service Medal, Waziristan comes up a few times, and the link below that gives a brief history.Very nice medal, nice engraving.Regards;Johnsyhttp://www.northeastmedals.co.uk/britishgu..._1908_award.htmhttp://www.khyber.org/publications/041-045/armyininda.shtml Edited July 3, 2007 by Tiger-pie
ccj Posted July 3, 2007 Posted July 3, 2007 (edited) Two very interesting sites. I'm glad I glimpsed at this thread.I couldn't say if the DFC is real from the image but if so it's a rare find. Edited July 3, 2007 by ccj
