James T Posted July 6, 2007 Posted July 6, 2007 I have always studied American Military history from the Spanish American war through Vietnam, but only recently started reading about the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812.When this set was offered to me I was persuaded to trade some SS stuff for it and I am glad I did.Smelt was kicking around my neighborhood back in 1813 and 1814. He participated in the battles of Plattsburg and Oswego, both are close to my home. He also was in the battle at Lundy's Lane, and the storming of Fort Erie. All are important actions in our military history and I don't think that there is any need to discuss who won these particular skirmishes. The Army of India Medal is named to Lieut Col W Smelt 41st Foot.My favorite British Medals.Jim
ccj Posted July 6, 2007 Posted July 6, 2007 Now that is a great historical group. I CB and Army of India medal to a general is a rare find. Thanks for sharing and if you have others please share. I do traded off SS and 3th Reich for Victorian British and also Imperial German items.
