Stevebee Posted October 16, 2007 Posted October 16, 2007 My late father who served in No.1 squadron at RAF Tangmere, always related a story that his (and other Squadrons) were still in France following the fall of Dunkirk and that when all available pilots had flown out, the Ground crew had the job of destroying any remaining aircraft/vehicles to prevent them falling into enemy hand. Finally they left 'in the belly of a bomber' and were brought home to somewhere on the Salisbury Plain. can anyone help is this story True and is it documented anywhere?steve bennett
Alex K Posted October 16, 2007 Posted October 16, 2007 Hi Steve, here's a brief link about No 1 Squadron, Here it says that the ground crew came out be sea, maybe they did stay behind to destroy unusable equipment, but didn't fly out.maybe a bit more research is requiredregardsAlex Khttp://www.bbc.co.uk/history/worldwars/wwt...allery_03.shtml
