Chris Boonzaier Posted December 13, 2007 Posted December 13, 2007 Stephan Grygiel of the 12th Brandenburg Grenadiers won the Iron Cross 2nd class at Fort Douaumont in may 1916. In 1918 he won the Prussian Milit?r Verdienst Kreuz, the highest award for a NCO or other ranky soldier, just 1 in about 7000 men getting the award.Does anyone have the Regimental history, and know if there is a citation for the latter award?ThanksChris
Chris Boonzaier Posted December 13, 2007 Author Posted December 13, 2007 The condition is terrible, Grygiel mounted the documents himself, trimming the sides and using lots of glue. The EK1 and 2 docs usually having the frame on the sides as well as the top and bottom.
Chris Boonzaier Posted December 13, 2007 Author Posted December 13, 2007 But how often do you manage to get one of these...
Guest Rick Research Posted December 13, 2007 Posted December 13, 2007 Never, that's how often. Now tell everybody what his MIDDLE name was-- and how he was the isnpiration for all the harry Potter books.
Chip Posted December 15, 2007 Posted December 15, 2007 I gave those documents my best squint and still could not see any middle name. Knowledge of it must come from some roll.Chip
Chip Posted December 16, 2007 Posted December 16, 2007 OK, I didn't mean I could not see it at all, I just meant I could not make it out due to the faint and blurred writing. How about an enlargement of the first document's awardee section Chris?
Guest Rick Research Posted December 16, 2007 Posted December 16, 2007 Eez... SYRANIMUS Grygiel. Wasn't that the Defense Against The Dark Arts teacher who was a werewolf?
Chip Posted December 16, 2007 Posted December 16, 2007 I think you must have some knowledge of the dark arts to be able to read that!
