matteti Posted December 20, 2007 Author Posted December 20, 2007 Not a very special group, but still an interesting one because it's rare that we get documented Glory 3rd, and even rarer that we get a photo of the vet with it. It came with all documented medals and badge that he has on the photo.

Primary education, not a Party member,In Red Army on 2nd White Russian Front from 22 June 19141 until wounded 11 March 1945. Discharged 10 July 1945 as Invalid of the 2nd Group.Soldier ("soldat"), rifleman in 391st Rifles Regiment, 170th Rifles Division.At the time his Awards Record Card was made out (15.2.48) he was a driver (sshofer) at the Krasnoslobodsky raion Consumers Union, living in Tenishevo.The recommendation went in for a Military Merit Medal.It repeats his unit and dates of service and says"...in action in east Prussia, was severely wounded by machine gun in the left leg with damage yto the "bone nerve." (?) As a result of the wound leg has limited movement. Because he is an invalid of the 2nd Group, not working. Deserves to be awarded the MMM6.1.47 "Brid" Krasnoslobodsky Raion VoenKom, Cpatain of Adfmin Svcs Beks..er20.1.47 Deserves to be awarded Order of Glory 3rd, VoenKom Mordov ASSR, Major Shevel....6.5.47 Deserves to be awarded Order of Glory 3rd, Commander VoenKom MMD, Colonel-General Artem'evPer Ukaz of the Presidium of the USSR, awarded Order of Glory 3rd Class 6.11.47"A tough, long life.

That's very fast service!My understanding is that there was a decision (Ukaz) taken in 1947 to give Order of Glory 3rd class to all war invalids. I thought this was the reason why he got his order. But why was he recommended for a MMM if this is the case? Might it be that there was MMM for a group of invalids while order of Glories were for another group?
