The normal reading of these two characters together would be Ei (as two syllables). Not sure if there is a different reading when they are combined as a name.

    Regards,

    Paul

Thanks for the help! Could they perhaps be pronounced as Ii? This fuchi has a family crest for the Ii clan on the other side.

Is that in our alphabet? The last time I accidentally clicked on a Japanese language website, the characters drove my computer insane.

I have a couple of very detailed books in Japanese (which I don't read). Could probably scan a page and let one of our linguists translate.

Just saw that on another forum it has been translated to Nagai. Maybe his first name? If it is, that would be very interesting.

The name is that of Nagai. It is most likely a family name.

The mon is to the Tachibana family and is a depiction of an orange.

Problem is that the mon no longer belongs to just the Tachibana family.

Thanks! Will write this down and save. I was hoping that only one or two familys used this mon, only found the Ii family on the internet.

It is nice to have a name to connect the sword to.
