Djedj Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 Evening gents.,I've had this for some time - don't know what it is ; I've seen the like on the old PLM website, stating it was some Freikorps badge/award of some kind ?The skull has some Braunschweig flavour to itself ; Regimental stuff ?It is quite base metal ; width is 50mm. ; no maker's mark :As you can see, it is quite curved and the skull is thick :Opinions welcome !Cheers,Jerome

bob lembke Posted January 21, 2008 Posted January 21, 2008 Interesting. I am not much of a medal guy, but I used to collect Roman coins, and in the period say 1500 AD pieces called "fantasy pieces" were made in the style of genuine Roman coins, but often more extravagant in design. They were not attempts to counterfeit genuine Roman coins, but were recognized collectors' items in themselves, made by jewelers. So when I saw the photo, the word "fantasy" popped into my mind, before I read peoples' comments using the word.Bob Lembke
