RRA227 Posted March 24, 2008 Posted March 24, 2008 Beretta model 1923 pistol was chambered in 9mm Glisenti. It was the 1st. in the Beretta line to have a external hammer. About 10,000 or so were made. Commericial,Military and Police types were produced.The pistol in the pic is gold plated/engraved with ebony grips. Trigger,hammer and safety are blued. It was made for Amedeo Savoia.Amedeo D.Savoia,Duke of Puglia,3rd. Duke of Aosta. He was commander in the East African campaign 1939-1941. He was cousin to King Victor Emmanual the 3rd..Born in 1898 he enlisted in the 4th.Calv. Div. in 1915.He was awarded bronze and silver medals for military valor. He returned to duty in 1925 and was posted in Libya. In 1931 Amedo joined the Regia Aeronautica and commanded fighter units. On May 3,1942 Amedo Aosta died in Nairobi,Kenya.
